A message from Leon

We are well into our last School Term for 2019.  For our Preps this means they have nearly completed their first year of school and this is our last Term with the 2019 Year 6 students as they soon venture off to Secondary School.

Already a lot has happened this term

AWARD WINNERS

A few months ago Thornbury Primary School was nominated for a Victorian Education Excellence Award.  This is the Academy Awards of Victorian Government Schools.  The category we were nominated in was Outstanding Koorie Education.

Last Friday night a small group of us were invited to attend the Awards Ceremony at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne.

I am pleased to announce that Thornbury Primary School won the award for Outstanding Koorie Education for 2019.

It is a great honour to receive this award and the credit goes towards our team of Koorie Educators:

Terri Lee-Fitzpatrick

Mel Harrison

Lee Couch

Shara Graham

Sharon Hughes

I would also like to recognise and thank the staff of Thornbury Primary School.  Our staff work hard in learning, teaching and appreciating Koorie culture and language.

I also thank our community for their support.  School Council has been terrific in supporting Koorie language and culture.  We also have so many parents (Both Koorie and Non-Koorie) who support Koorie Education at Thornbury Primary School.

A short video was produced and can be found under the Team awards section of this website:

Arts Festival is coming

Saturday November 16th is our annual Arts Festival.   Our Arts Festival showcases student’s work in the Arts.  The 5/ 6 building is transformed to a giant art exhibition.  Every child who learns an instrument will get to perform and there are lots of food stalls which support local parent business connected to our school.  There are many other things for sale as well.  The Arts Festival runs most of the day and there is a small charge to enter.  It is a wonderful celebration of our school.  We welcome new and existing families as well as extended families and friends to come and celebrate with us.  This year we will also have a circus theme event where children, staff and parents will be encouraged to participate in all kinds of circus activities.

Native Garden Launch

On Friday November 1st we will have a special Native Garden launch at school.  Our Environmental Team received a number of grants and have spent many months planning and planting to improve the environment around the school.

We will have an assembly at 11:45am to officially open the garden and children will complete special activities that promote environmental education.  Parents and carers are welcome to join our activities and after school we will have a special BBQ for families.

Thank you for all your support
