Reminders:

Home Reading Books

If you find any books belonging to the school at home, please return them as soon as possible. School books can be identified by a pink numbered sticker or a South Melbourne PS stamp on the inside page.

Work and Books Coming Home

Over the next few days, we will be sending work and books home for families to keep and enjoy. With this in mind, we ask that students bring a named carrier bag to school on Monday 14th December so that we can start the process.

Home Reading and High Frequency Words

In this final week of term, students should continue to read aloud to an adult at home.

Note that there are no high frequency word lists sent home. Instead, we encourage students to:

-Practise reading the first 200 high frequency words

-Use these words in written and verbal sentences

-Apply knowledge of high frequency words when reading books.

Ongoing practise of the above skills will support students as they transition into Grade 1.

Whilst we encourage a passion for reading and learning, we also acknowledge that the students have had a busy year and deserve a good rest this summer. When the holidays arrive, be sure to enjoy some quality time together as a family!

Grade 1 Notices

  • Students work and books will start going home from next week. Please bring a named plastic/carry bag for them to take work home in.
  • We are encouraging children to keep reading each night and continue doing one Mathseeds lesson until the end of term.
  • We ask students to keep practising their reading over the holidays. Students can keep reading on MyOn over this time or reading books at home. This is a great time to develop a love of reading and work on our Summer Reading Challenge.
