PERFORMING ARTS

GORDON STOOKE

This week marks the final week that we have had the pleasure of Mr Gordon Stooke teaching at McKinnon Secondary College.  At the end of term he will take on a new adventure in his life, retiring from teaching, but increasing the opportunities to perform. He will be sorely missed by students, parents and staff alike. We wish him well in this change.

STEPHEN HARDIE

Thank you to Mr Stephen Hardie, who will be finishing at the end of term as replacement percussion teacher. His work over the last 15 months has been fabulous and we thank you for your work with the students. Mr Sergei Golovko will be returning to teaching at McKinnon in Term 2.

TAKING INSTRUMENTS HOME

As we head into the final week of term a reminder to all students to take their instruments home so they can practice over the holidays. The Music Centre will be open until 4pm on Thursday for students to come and collect their instruments.

STRING FEST

Congratulations to the 33 McKinnon students who took part in the String fest held on Wednesday 24 March at MacRoberston Girls High School.

They joined over 160 string students from over the Southern Region for this exciting opportunity to perform as a large orchestra with guest clinicians Jill Griffiths and Sarina Walters.

Thank you to Ms Clare Bugeja for her organisation of this event, and to Mr Stuart Cook for attending with our large number of students.

GIGS ON THE GREEN

What a fantastic way to end term one performances with Ms Eleanora Bersta, Mr Cedric Chamontin and Mr Daniel Farthing performing at Gigs on the Green Friday 26 March. With the fundraising activities of Interact taking place, there was a great carnival atmosphere. Thank you to Mr Baltazar Kurowski and his fantastic team for their ongoing organisation of this concert series. Thank you also to Mr Nick Xanthoudakis and his team for ensuring that these concerts sound fantastic. Anyone interested in performing should contact kub@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au for more details.
