Achieving Excellence Together

Dear Parents,

On Thursday this week we held our first Reading Café since 2019. It was fantastic to bring our community together and celebrate our collective love of literacy as a school. I was most impressed our Young Leaders who performed confidently as they read a-loud to the audience. I’d like to extend my thanks to our staff led by Mrs. Burke for their efforts in arranging such a successful event. It is memories like these that will stick in the minds of our students for many years to come and truly foster a passion for reading. Thank you to our families who made the time to join us and enjoyed their free hot beverage.

Finally, I would like to welcome the 10 new students who joined our community this week. On behalf of everyone at our school, I extend our warmest welcome and wish them all the best as they continue their learning with us.

School-Wide Positive Behaviour

At our school, we believe in reinforcing positive behaviours with students as the fundamental concept to foster a positive climate for learning. We achieve this by:

  • Defining our positive behaviours on a Matrix, displayed in every classroom around the school
  • Acknowledging when students demonstrate positive behaviour by awarding them a High 5 token which can be redeemed at the High 5 Shop; and
  • Explicitly teaching students the positive behaviours defined on our matrix through our weekly Values Hour program

If you are interested in finding out more or would like to contribute to how we support positive behaviours at school, we currently have an opening on the School Council and SWPBS Sub-Committee. Contact our office today to get involved.

Excursions

With COVID restrictions now eased, students have begun engaging in excursions once more. These valuable experiences enrich your child’s learning and will be referred back to in their classrooms. Families are asked to return permission slips and payment by the due date. Currently families can make payment through the classroom cashbook or at the front office. The school is currently enquiring about digital payment and consent processes through the Compass Portal and hopes to have that available in Term 3

Road Safety:

The two main roads surrounding our school are Diamond Ave and Dover Street. Both roads have a 40km/h speed limit during the drop off and pick up times. Recently there have been a number of complaints about cars travelling above the speed limit, performing illegal U-turns, parking in No Standing zones and stopping in the middle of the road for pick up and drop offs. The school has been contacted by Brimbank City Council and Victoria Police to discuss these complaints. They have informed us that they intend to increase the monitoring of this area in an attempt to stop illegal activity and increase safety of all students at these times. We are asking all road users to abide by the road rules. Our school gates open in the morning at 8:45 with student having until 9:00am to enter their classroom. We encourage families and students not to arrive at the gates before 8:45 to minimise the build of people outside the gates. Thank you for your cooperation.
