Library News

National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is a chance for the Library to celebrate Indigenous culture and raise awareness of the Aboriginal Peoples Collection found within its doors.
Students and staff are encouraged to borrow histories, biographies, stories from the Dreamtime and other titles and subjects to broaden their appreciation and knowledge of the first peoples of this land.
Meet our new Teacher/Librarian - Mr Matthew Cohn!

I’m a violist and music teacher with an extra string to my bow – Library!
Why libraries? What led you to library work?
I’ve always loved books, mostly non-fiction, so in thinking about broadening what I do, library work seemed a good fit.

The music playing in the background; it’s very calming and uplifting.

Sweet and sour pork and fried rice.
Favourite pastime:
I have a few of these: gardening; solar power; gym; role playing games.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
Congratulations and thank you to all of those students who have already logged onto the challenge and have begun recording the books they have read since the beginning of the school year.
We are delighted to report that thus far:
- 60 students have logged on
- 410 books have been added, of which
- 298 books have been read.
It has also been very pleasing to see that the students are from all levels, Year 7, 8, 9 and 10.
Remember that house points are awarded for all students who complete the challenge, and given the present competitiveness between the houses, it could be a great time to make a difference to your house!
We encourage all parents to have a look at the email your child received about the challenge, on Tuesday 10 May from Celine Bush, in order to determine how you can best support your student.
Karla Chisholm, Beth Leach and Lauren Gates in the school library are ready and eager to assist all students in finding a book for each student to read and enjoy.
It might also be a great opportunity to visit the local library and find a great book, the perfect thing to do during this cold, wet, wintry weather.
HAPPY READING!
