Japanese Study Tours at Aberfoyle Park High School

Do you have a spare room? Would you like to share South Australian life with a Japanese student? We are growing our Home Stay network and are continually recruiting new host families to participate in the International Study Tour Program by hosting Japanese high school students. Study Tours are usually two weeks in duration. During this time they will experience Australian school and family life and participate in excursions and school activitiesAs some students would have not visited Australia before it gives them a chance to learn a different culture, practice their English skills and live the Australian life for the duration of their visit.

Study Tour students stay with accredited host families which are organised through the school. The students are usually between 15 and 17 years of age and are matched to a host family by looking at their hobbies and interests.

Please contact sarah.johnson917@schools.sa.edu.au for more information on how to apply.

Here is a testimonial from a home stay family:

‘We have been hosting international students for the past 3 years and it has been an amazing experience for everyone in the family. We found that hosting has brought us together as a family and we feel our family has grown substantially with members all over the world. For anyone thinking of hosting we say “Give it a go”, you will not regret it. It is such a wonderful experience and it will enrich your lives’.

International Ambassador Program at Aberfoyle Park High School

Kate Lonergan, LOTE Teacher

This term we have welcomed two new students from Japan to Year 10. Our ambassador buddies have been making them feel welcome by showing them around the school and spending time with them at break times.

As a whole group, every third Friday, we get together during lunch and celebrate an important event in Australia. This term we have celebrated Anzac Day by eating Anzac biscuits and playing Two Up as well as the Queen's birthday with some scones and charades. We also share how other countries around the world celebrate similar events.

Next term we are welcoming another nine students from Japan and one from Germany. Exciting times ahead!
