Year 10

Work Experience

Alicia Dean, Year 10 & PLP Leader

Work Experience Week commenced for our Year 10’s in Week 2 with over 160 of our cohort venturing into the community to learn first hand what it is like to enter the workforce. Whether these placements were related to their career aspirations, goals of obtaining a part time job or just hoping to get more of an experience in a different learning environment,  the feedback we received from students, providers and supervising teachers has been overwhelmingly positive.

Out of 180 Year 10 students we had 165 complete work experience. The students went to over 135 different places linked to over 20 different industries including:

Australian Defence ForceLandscaping
AutomotiveManufacturing
ConstructionPolitics
Education and Child CarePromotions
EngineeringRadio Communications
Food and HospitalityResearch and Training
Hairdressing and BeautyRetail
HealthVeterinary Science

As the Year 10 leader I am very proud of how our students conducted themselves whilst on work experience and the resourcefulness and maturity that was demonstrated by students who sourced their own placements.

A number of students have commented on how valuable they found the experience  and how it has helped shaped decision making for the future, whilst others detailed that if they were to undertake this again, they would be more proactive and start the process earlier so that they could find somewhere a bit more challenging and aligned to their long term goals - a tip for 2023 Year 10’s!

We sincerely thank the efforts of the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) staff and support staff that supported our students in obtaining work experience venues, Year 10 teaching staff for visiting our students in the field, and of course all the businesses who took our students on board. Without these contributions, Work Experience Week  2022 would not have been the success it was.
