Prayer

This Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost.  Pentecost celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit on the early followers of Jesus Christ and also recognizes the day that the Church was established.

Pentecost affirms who we are as the Church – the People of God called to spread the news far and wide of the mighty words and works of Jesus Christ.   We are endowed with the same grace guidance of the Holy Spirit like the early disciples.  We are called to put our own gifts to use and spread the Good News with love.

Come, Holy Spirit and make us Pentecost people.

Let your wisdom and right judgement guide our decisions

and temper our impulses.

Let knowledge and understanding increase our capacity

for empathy and compassion.

Let reverence and awe fill us with gratitude

and respect for all of creation.

Give us the courage to witness boldly to our faith in word and deed.

Through and with and in Jesus Christ, we pray,

Amen

Reconciliation

We have been engaging fully this week in Indigenous Reconciliation Week which was commenced last week. On Monday, the College held a very powerful Indigenous Reconciliation Ceremony led by proud Yuin Man Uncle Leslie.

The smoking ceremony gave initiation to our student representative teams wearing our Indigenous jerseys and commissioned them as ambassadors for Reconciliation.

The whole school joined in a reconciliation of the heart as our representatives committed all our school members to true listening and exchange with our First Nations people.

This follows our recent visit by Cammeraygal elder Professor Dennis Foley and the Singing Up Country Gaimaragal Festival event attended by our students last Sunday. Our Year 10 student members of our Reconciliation Action Plan team took up the baton of Brave Change for Reconciliation this week.

Change of Dates - Mark your Calendar

Please note the two change of dates in the College Calendar.

  • The Year 11 2023 (Current Year 10 Students) Subject Selection Evening scheduled for Wednesday 8 June has been postponed to Tuesday 14 June.
  • Friday June 10 will now be a normal school day for students as the Staff Day has been postponed to Friday 23 September (the last day of Term 3).

New Prefects Appointed

There are many Year 12 students who continue to demonstrate the values and responsibilities of leadership through the year.  At Monday's Assembly, Year 12 Coordinator, Ms Donna Janes announced two new Prefects: Ethan Griffin and Rufus Ashford for their efforts and leadership, and Mr Couani badged these newly appointed leaders.

Ms Janes' speech to the College community detailed the work that Ethan and Rufus have been carrying out:

"Ethan Griffin

Ethan has been an advocate for wellbeing and mental heath for many years. He has been a Peer Support Leader and mentor to younger students at the College. He has been a voice for RUOK? Day and bravely shared his own story with our school community this year. He continually puts others before himself and has demonstrated leadership and courage in the area of wellbeing. Congratulations Ethan on being badged as a School Prefect today.

Rufus Ashford

Rufus is always ready to volunteer and offer assistance wherever there is a need.  He has been a Peer Support Leader and mentor for younger students in the College Community. He is immensely proud to be a St Pius X student and takes great pride in representing the College at any opportunity. A creative student, he designed our 2022 theme logo that you will be familiar seeing all over the school, Opportunity and Growth, Aspire to Inspire. Congratulations Rufus on being badged a School Prefect this morning."

Congratulations to Ethan and Rufus.

ISA Cross Country

Congratulations to the students who attended the ISA Cross Country Selection Carnival last Wednesday at the Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park.  The students ran extremely well, with the Junior Boys team placing 3rd overall, the Intermediates placing 2nd.  The best result of the day was the Senior boys' team who defended last year's win, taking the shield again.  These results placed the team second in the event - a wonderful achievement!

For further details, please see the Senior School Sport page of this Woodchatta.

COVID-19  Additional Roll-Out of Rapid Antigen Home Tests (RAHTs)

Unexpectedly, the school has received a further roll-out of RAHTs for students and staff.  As a result, these tests will be issued to students in Years 5 - 12 on Monday 6 June.

Parents are reminded to use these when students have symptoms and to register any positive test result on the Service NSW App, and that the school must be notified immediately of this result.  Staff and students must isolate for 7 days.
