Seniors are in their third week of competition before they will have some time off to complete exams and Year 10 Work Experience before the holidays. A special thanks to our Year 12s who put some time aside to represent the school during the Senior Summer Season and to the ones who are still involved in team sport during our Winter Season.

Athletic Season Ends With EISM Championships

Students who performed well during the EISM Division 2 Athletics at the start of May were invited to the EISM Athletic Championships on Tuesday 24 May at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park.

Oxley finished fifth overall this year in the Division Athletics due to a few of our star athletes not able to attend. The girls still performed well to finish second overall behind Donvale Christian College. There were some great results, especially in the field events that resulted in a team of 20 students invited to take part in the EISM Championships Athletics.

Charles Cunningham (12.10) was the standout during the EISM Championships winning three gold medals for long jump, triple jump, and high jump. That was a great achievement by our Athletics Captain this year. Other medal winners include Asha Jones (9.19) with bronze in the high jump, Josh Barker (7.3) silver in shot put, Ava Van Haaster bronze in high jump, Daniella Licina (7.5) bronze in shot put, Summer Lee (10.18) silver in shot put and Audrey Oastler (12.9) silver in high jump. Congratulations to all these students.

Victorian School’s Association Swimming Competition

Four of our swimmers were invited to represent the EISM at this year’s Victorian School’s Association Competition that took place on Monday 9 May at the Melbourne Sport and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). Schools from different associations in Melbourne send their best swimmers to this event to compete against each other. During the event Une Geisler (10.17) broke the EISM record in the U16 Boys 50m Backstroke with a time of 28.11sec. Congratulations Une!

Dakoda Mathers (11.16), Ruan Rademeyer (10.17) and Lucy Weighell were our representatives at this EISM event. Our swimmers work hard throughout the year in their preparation to perform well in the pool. Congratulations to you all.

House Cross Country

It was a great atmosphere during our House Cross Country on Tuesday 17 May when most of our students took on the 3,000m and 4,000m course to represent their Houses. In nice, cool running weather Zion Crusaders took the Cross Country crown back from Gibeon Warriors to be announced winners by 81 points. It was still a great contest between the three Houses with only 16 points difference between second and third place.

This year, we made some time changes to the order the different Age Groups had to run by starting off with the U/16 Boys, followed by U/15 Boys and Girls and Open Boys in an effort to get the 4,000m events out of the way. This opened up time for the U16 Boys, who are mostly Year 10s, to assist with the Year 10 barbeque that raised funds for Samaritan’s Purse

It was a great effort by all our Age Groups as students tried to gain as many points as possible for their Houses. The course was the same as last year, as we stayed mainly on the property and utilised as much of the property as possible. The U/15, U/16 and Open Boys had to run through the Teardrop car park and around LMC twice for the extra 1,000m.
