VCAL in the Community

As part of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning, students undertake an inquiry into social issues. The Senior VCAL cohort have been inquiring into the social issue of homelessness in Australia.

The cohort participated in a workshop run by local social enterprise The Good Box, that deliver beautiful packaged boxes as a gift to those experiencing homelessness. These boxes contain supplies and a handwritten note of care.

Students learnt key statistics about the issue and participating in the packaging of boxes and crafting notes of care. Additionally, students also conducted a tour by the Salvation Army to further understand details and many causes and consequences of homelessness. Students really were able to gauge the complexity of the issue and were incredibly engaged during the activities.

A huge congratulations to the Senior VCAL cohort and we look forward to seeing them further engage in responsible actions around social issues!

Transition Education

One of the Core units in the Year 11 & 12 Transition Education Course this year is to Conduct a Community Project.

The year 11 and 12 students were given an awareness project on Wildlife Victoria.

The goal of the project has been to bring awareness to tour School Community on the work that Wildlife Victoria does and the Endangered Species that are struggling to survive in the ever-changing environment.

The students were required to plan the project, from the species that they would research, the function of Wildlife Victoria, as well as how best our community can support the important work that Wildlife Victoria does.

Each Student chose an endangered species that is currently considered either extinct or endangered of being extinct to research. They also had to work as a team and plan how this project would bring awareness to the plight of our endangered species in Victoria.

The students chose to present the information researched in a morning tea, where staff were invited to share morning tea and hear about the work that Wildlife Victoria   does, how the community can assist in the prolonging the Victorian Wildlife and how to best support Victorian Wildlife.
