9D on Free Dress Day, with Mr Patrick ("President of everything")

We've already had many experiences in 9A this term. We're learning everything from the Pythagoras theorem in Maths to sound waves in Science, and we're even learning how to play Lacrosse in physical education. In English, we gave persuasive speeches, and in geography, we began learning about biomes. From all the changes and new experiences, this term has offered by far was the best start to term 2.

9D is a very outgoing and friendly class. We show teamwork and help each other when needed. In class we have been doing many CATs and tests. Even though most are hard, we work together with our teachers to overcome challenges.

In Year 9 we are lucky to be part of a program called MySelf. After being new to MySelf classes, which run for three periods on Wednesday in our first term, we can gladly say that term 2 has started off wonderfully.

In 9D there are five people who are doing interschool sports this term, covering Girls Football, Boys Football and Boys Soccer. After speaking to them, we can see that they thoroughly enjoy representing our school and being part of a team.  Good job to all teams!

We have also completed Morrisby testing, which provides us with insights to our future studies and careers. We are very excited to meet with the professionals to discuss our results.

During this term, we also completed NAPLAN. We were all nervous but comforted from the help that we got from our teachers and the extra numeracy workshop.

Overall, we are all happy and comfortable in this class and believe we are excelling our learning.

This term has started off excellently for 9H, and it has been a great time so far. We completed all of our NAPLAN tasks, have already had some tests and CAT’s due, and we have excelled in all of these. We have bonded well as a class, so there is now a great atmosphere of working together in our class.

9C has been busy once again in Term 2. We have completed our Oral Presentations in English, investigated various mental illnesses in Health and completed our Morrisby Testing in Discovery. We have also just finished all of our NAPLAN testing (our last time). 9C is a really enjoyable class to be in and it is great how we support each other in all of our lessons. We are all looking forward to the rest of the year together.

Creative Repurposing

The MySTEAM class are thinking big to solve new challenges each week! They are foraging for unwanted materials and repurposing each piece to build bridges, catch eggs, propel handmade cars and more.

They have been so creative and resourceful that soon we’ll take their efforts put into the community to explore and extend their personal and social capabilities.

If you have unwanted items at home that could assist please contact Lisa Chiuchiarelli. Some things they’d love would be plumbing materials and old tent poles.

Sail Away...

Here are some more photos from the MyOutdoors camp experience in Term 1. Students enjoyed their sailing lessons and demonstrated incredible teamwork skills as they navigated the boat and the waters off Geelong foreshore. Ahh the serenity!

MyCity: O’Brien Icehouse

It was on the 18th of May in the year 2022 of the Gregorian calendar that the intrepid explorers of the MyCity program made another fabled pilgrimage into the Melbourne CBD. Ms Gucciardo’s class commenced the journey a few minutes after the fast-starting Mr Hanna’s class due to an overcrowded public bus. However, in true Stawell-Gift type fashion the handicapped starters were the first to arrive at the metaphorical O’Brien Icehouse finish line, partially due to some unexpected obstacles in the path of Mr Hanna’s group.

Upon arriving at the train station, some obviously confusing signage threatened to turn the MyCity trip into a my OuterSuburb excursion, however crisis was averted by some initiative taking students who redirected the group in a City-bound direction of travel.

Upon arriving at Flinders Street and boarding a tram, the students simply couldn’t resist the allure of the crisp, fresh city air just outside the tram windows, and thus exercised their decision-making skills by promptly dismounting that mode of transportation in favour of a 20-minute walk to the venue.

In a sign of what was to come, once both groups had arrived safely at the O’Brien Icehouse the first lesson, they were taught was in how to fall over in the proper fashion. Whilst vital for the children’s safety, this lesson was soon shown to be superfluous by the speed and skill of the students around the ice rink. Obviously possessing the appearance and aura of a seasoned ice-skater, a couple of students enquired of one member of the wellbeing team how to acquire extra speed around the rink. These queries were quickly put to rest by the reassurance that even for the life-experienced wellbeing team, this was for the most part a new experience.

The fun and eventful day was brought to its conclusion with a trip to the health food store Carl’s Jr, where the students were able to reminisce on the fun they had whilst also developing their resilience and adaptability to new situations.
