Assembly Message – Give Me a High Five

Our wellbeing focus in Assemblies this term is five ways to wellbeing. Each week we will focus on one of the five ways. We are using high fives to prompt us, with each finger and thumb being one of the five ways.

We started last week with Connect – connect with friends and family, and focus on our relationships. Making a connection with other people can feel amazing! It helps you to feel like you belong, are important and are valued. It doesn’t need to take a huge chunk of time. Spending time playing a game or reading with brothers or sisters is connecting. Technology affords us the luxury of staying connected with those who may not be close by. Spend time listening as well as talking. The task given to students was to ask someone how their day was before they ask you. This simple gesture makes the person you asked feel good but also gives you a boost as well.

This week we added Be Active. We know so many students are involved in groups and team sports that gets them moving but you can fit exercise into your day in so many ways. Put on some music and dance, go for a bike ride with a family member, go for a walk or try something new. Do what you like to do. Playing games with your friends at recess is being active and I’m sure you do lots of things at home that doesn’t involve sitting still. Trampolines, scooters, skipping ropes and balls can be found in most households. It doesn’t need to be an organised sport or game, just have some fun. Be active every day in your own way. This week I also encouraged students to join in the push up challenge that starts on 1 June.

Let us remember that the actions we take and the way we think have an impact on our wellbeing.

Thank you to Year Five students Elsie, Georgia, Jessica and Jimmy who did an amazing job leading our Assembly in the absence of the Year 6 students.

NAPLAN

A big congratulations to all the Year 3 and 5 students who completed a busy week of NAPLAN last week. To saw such focus and concentration in both classrooms as students demonstrated their learning.

Guess How Much I Love You

On Tuesday afternoon, Prep, Year One and Year Two ventured out to the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre to watch a performance of the much-loved Sam McBratney story, Guess How Much I Love You, following the adventures of Little Nutbrown Hare and his father Big Nutbrown Hare. Students witnessed the wonder of puppetry with an amazing set. A beautiful message was shared – I love you right up to the moon and back.

Some thoughts from the children:

“I liked when the big hare thought the world was tiny and the little hare thought it was big. When they went to the top of the hill and big nutbrown hare thought it was the end of the world and he would fall off.”  Herbie, Prep

“I liked when Little Nutbrown Hare jumped over the water and he didn’t think he could do it. He was growing up and trying new things.”  Jack, Prep

“I thought the rabbit, Little Nutbrown Hare was going to fall down because he was too heavy for the lily pad but he didn’t.”   Will, Prep

“I loved the big one. He was funny when he played hide and seek.” Harry, Year One

“I liked when the little hare hit the dad hare on the tail when he found him when they were playing hide and seek.” Lucy M, Year One

“I think the whole thing was really good. What I liked best was them sliding down the hill on snowboards.” Sammie, Year Two

Country Week Hockey

Last weekend saw representative teams from around Victoria participate in the Country Week Hockey championships.  Junior School girls, Evie Templeton, Camilla Edgar, Jessica Templeton, Maggie Mercer and Matilda Mercer, travelled to the state hockey centre in Melbourne to compete in the U13 competition.  They were joined by several Senior Campus students, Phoebe Alexander, Millie Mould, Grace Potter, Chloe Laidlaw and Jemima Ross. The girls played an exciting five games, including finals. They were undefeated with a 2-0 win against Geelong in the Grand Final making them U13 Girls’ State Champions. The girls said they were nervous playing but that they enjoyed the professional atmosphere and that they could watch the other games in comfort, out of the rain.  Thank you to Julie Templeton for coaching the girls.
