Assistant Principal Report

HARMONY WEEK MONDAY 21 - SUNDAY 27 MARCH 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

At Melton West Primary school we are celebration Harmony Week. Mrs Brinsden is leading the team in organising lots of celebratory events to help us all celebrate one of our greatest strengths – our diversity.

What makes us so successful as a community is how we embrace the diverse cultures and customs of people from around the world who call Australia home. That is what Harmony Week and this year’s theme - ‘everyone belongs’ - is all about; inclusiveness, respect and fostering a sense of community.

During this week in particular, we proudly share and celebrate our diverse stories, beliefs and traditions. We also strive to learn more from one another, deepen the connections within our communities, and work towards building an even stronger Australia.

On Wednesday we have a whole school performance by Sean Choolburra.  Sean’s performance biography states that he fuses his engaging energy and humour with historical facts, spiritual wisdom, depth of ancestral understanding and knowledge; he is one very exciting and talented cultural ambassador. Dance – stories – painting – fire creation – didgeridoo playing: all are presented with a wonderful array of artefacts, from fishing nets to hunting shields. Students are encouraged to dance, sing and participate!

I encourage everyone to participate in this year’s Harmony Week celebrations and to embrace the message ‘everyone belongs’.

Kind regards

Jennifer O’Connor

Assistant Principal.
