PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents/Staff/MESC Community,

It is with great pride and excitement that I have accepted the position as Substantive Principal of Mount Eliza Secondary College. While this is a personal accomplishment, it is a greater celebration for the school community. For over two years, the college has had three Acting Principals. While all Acting Principals have had a positive impact on the college, it has been difficult to cement goals and direction.

I applied for this position not because I am aspirant to be a Principal, but because I am aspirant to be the Principal of Mount Eliza Secondary College.

I am very aware of the great place in which I work, and have upmost respect and regard for all the amazing MESC staff I work with. I am so fortunate to lead a school where families and the wider community value education, and all that that encompasses.

I am committed to continuing the important work that has been happening in all classrooms across the college, supporting Teachers and Education Support Staff to meet the individual needs of each student in their academic journey and social emotional wellbeing.

I am also committed to working with School Council and families to set goals on rejuvenating our landscape and updating facilities. This is a complex space to work in, but as a community, we need to vie for an educational setting that is required for 21st Century Learning and enhancing college pride within the community.

It is a very exciting time in State Education, and this excitement transcends into the daily routines at MESC. We have a new Leadership Team this year. We have many goals and ideas we want to implement as we move forward into 2022 and beyond, it is rewarding that we can begin to act on these.

It sounds like the Student Led Conferences were a positive experience. Thank you to our community for supporting us in the management of days like this. I appreciate the format may not suit everyone, but the data we received from the survey sent out, overwhelmingly supported virtual conferences. Please feel free to contact the college any time you have feedback for us. I have already received feedback from teaching staff from speaking to you in conferences, about teaching and learning, communication and personal learning support required. These will be shared with appropriate leaders and acted upon.

It has been a long 11 week term. I can see many tired eyes in students and staff. It is important that everyone takes a break over the next 2 weeks, to recoup, set goals and come back in term two with vigour. Our Senior students will have study, but it important that they take time out for wellbeing and time with friends and family.

Take care all, have a wonderful Easter and be safe if you are travelling.
