Principal's Message

By Jenny Hassett

Welcome back

Welcome back everyone to Term 2. I hope everyone had a really enjoyable break and was able to participate in some quality family time.

Hopefully, this will be a really great term with minimal disruptions to our learning environment.

New COVID Updates

Face masks , while recommended, are no longer required in any school setting. This means that students in grades 3-6, staff and visitors in primary schools are no longer required to wear face masks. Any student or staff member who wishes to wear a face mask my do so.

The supply of RATs will continue for at least the first 4 weeks of term 2. Parents are requested to test their child/children at least twice per week. Please contact the school if any of the results are positive.

At this stage we still ask parents to refrain from entering any school buildings. If you wish to contact a teacher please make an appointment and on arrival sign in at the main office.

Our main aim is to keep all members of our school community as safe as possible.

Professional Learning Day

During the school’s Professional Development Day (26/4) staff divided the day between Literacy and Numeracy. In Literacy, staff explored current practices with phonics and word knowledge, and what it looks like in classrooms. We looked deeper into the Smart Spelling program, the curriculum and student data.

In Numeracy, staff had a deep dive into rigorously analysing our whole school Numeracy data which included our PAT assessments, NAPLAN assessments, Essential Assessments and our anecdotal notes. Teachers found the “glows” and “grows” of our data and then began planning targeted lesson sequences for Term 2 while undertaking professional development in the use of Essential Assessments My Numeracy portal.

Mother's Day Stall

The stall be be held this Friday morning and all gifts will be $5. Children will have a chance to purchase one gift, please send your child/children to school with $5. All proceeds will go towards improving the school grounds and outdoor facilities

Uniform

As the weather becomes cooler, students may wish to wear a navy blue beanie to keep their head warm.  Beanies with the school logo are available from the school office or through our uniform supplier DCS Uniforms. Cost $10.

Parking Fines

I have been informed by  a number of parents that they have received parking fines in the mail for parking on the far side of Wolseley Grove, on and in the Emergency zone.

We know parking is extremely difficult around the school, but I don't want any parent receiving  a fine. Please be aware of all parking signs so you do not get a surprise in the mail.

NAPLAN

Our Year 3 & 5 students will be taking part in the National Assessment Program, NAPLAN, beginning on Tuesday 10th May. Each day the children will be required to complete tests over a range of learning areas including Reading, Writing, Number, Language and Numeracy. Every child approaches these tests differently with some handling the situation well and others finding it very challenging. We ask that you support your child by not placing any undue pressure on them to perform. If you prefer your child not to be involved in this testing program please contact the school before Wednesday 4th May. It’s important to remember that NAPLAN results provide a snapshot in time and is not necessarily the only indicator of a student’s future success. I would like to wish all of the children well in their preparations and know that whatever results they achieve they will have given their best effort.

Prep Enrolments and Tours

If you have a sibling of a current student needing enrolment in 2023, then we ask that this is submitted as soon as possible to give us a clear indication of potential numbers and class sizes. We are already well underway for planning our 2023 Prep classes.
