Swimming week

We couldn't believe our luck with the beautiful and unseasonably warm weather for swimming this week. The teachers have all expressed appreciation for the students' efforts: their resilience, positive attitude, attempt to do their best, and the respect they showed for the swimming instructors. We have had nothing but positive comments; go Team Uraidla!  (❁´◡`❁)

Thank you to all of the parents who came along to support their children, helped us with assisting children to change out of wet bathers,  and supervised children at the playground.  I hope you enjoy these photos of fun in the pool!

Business as usual

I'd like to acknowledge and thank the staff who continue to adapt and provide a top quality

education for our students in these strange and unsettling Covid times. I captured this moment with 2 classes working outside at the same time, which is almost our new normal now! Our thoughts go to all of the families dealing with sickness and isolation due to Covid, and once again we thank all of you for your support in keeping everyone safe.

Engaged

We have almost come to the end of our term 1 focus on being engaged with our learning. As a school we 've been looking at focus, mindfulness, self-awareness of what helps each of us to be engaged, setting goals, the 'Learning Pit', 'Brain Breaks' and physical activity, helping others to stay engaged, the role of positive thinking in engagement, and internal or external motivation.  Our hope is that by explicitly teaching about how we learn best, our students will grow to be self-aware and know themselves and how they learn best, reflecting deeply and working to be the best versions of themselves, rather than passive learners. We know many of you are following up at home and we appreciate it!

Green Team

We are starting up a 'Green Team' of parents and school staff interested in sustainable initiatives for the school. We'd love some more school family members to be involved. Would you like to join us? Our next meeting is Wednesday Week 2 May 11th from 3:30-4:40 in my office - or outside if weather permits and we get a crowd.🤞  😉

Seen in the playground this week

Snail pets, playground games, sandpit adventures... yard duty brings the pleasure of entering children's imaginary play once again. How lucky am I?

End of term

I'd like to remind everyone that Monday is a Pupil Free Day - the staff are doing professional learning in the area of teaching writing.  OSHC is available if you need care for your children but please book in asap!

Thursday next week is the last day of term, and we are hoping to host our final assembly for the term outside from 1:30-2:10 (weather permitting) - and you are most welcome to attend! Family members can stand at the back; please wear a mask and keep 1.5m distance from others.

We will be drawing our Easter raffle at the assembly so make sure you have bought and returned your tickets by Tuesday morning.  Our office is filling up with goodies for the raffle- we would love some more items so if you haven't had a chance yet please send some Easter treats along by Tuesday morning as well, since the prizes will be assembled that day by the Parents and Friends.  Thank you!

This is the last newsletter for the term, so enjoy the last week and have a great end of term and holiday everyone!
