WORLD CHALLENGE

Peru

"Hola¡¡ We safely landed in LA this morning after the long 14 hour flight, at 6:34am local time. Current time is 1:08pm and most of the team are sprawled across the floor in the gate lounge trying to catch up on some sleep."

"Arriving in Lima we had a bit of a culture shock but we're all very excited to experience the differences and explore."

"In Paracas today we had a tour of a very special desert that joined up with the Pacific Ocean. This desert was also cold during the day and warm at night and has not got a name."

Colca Canyon

"Today we started at an altitude of 3400m at the top of the Colca Canyon. We walked down steep rocky paths for four hours, down to 2500m. By the time we reached the cute little guest house around 2pm, we were exhausted! The guesthouse was run by a lovely Peruvian family who served us authentic Peruvian meals including soup, rice, potatoes and even alpaca!"

 Llachón

"As we are staying in Llachón on Lake Titicaca at the moment for our community project one family have been kind enough to cook us lunch and dinner every day. For breakfast today we made it ourselves using the kitchen to whip up some boiled eggs (Note to self: Do not attempt 50 boiled eggs in one pot with only 20 minutes until the herd comes in hungry to fuel themselves for the busy day ahead). Along with our sloppy half cooked boiled eggs we had granola, milk and bananas. Feeling satisfied we headed out for a busy morning before coming back to the dining room for some sopa maiz (veggie soup) for entrée accompanied by some saltado verdura (stir fried rice and veggies with cheese) for main. We were also rewarded with what we thought was chocolate pudding, but ended up being hot, sweet purple corn jelly with bits of stewed apple throughout. Although it wasn't terrible, it wasn't chocolate pudding."
