ZOO EXCURSION

Year 7

On 11 and 12 November, the Year 7 students visited Melbourne Zoo for a Science excursion. There were three focuses for the day. The first was to attend a program run by the zoo about classification of animals and endangered species, the second to collect information about different types of animals that would be used at school for a common assessment task and the third to enjoy the day with friends.

The zoo provided information about ten critically endangered animals including the orangutan, corroboree frog, lion and African elephant. Throughout the day students were challenged to observe and research these animals and decide which is the most in need of saving from extinction. Students voted for their animal at the end of the day – the lion and elephant were the winners! Overall, two fun and informative days were had.
