AVSC Tournament

Senior Boys Volleyball team

Kew High School entered 12 teams into this year’s Australian Volleyball Schools Cup which was held from 6 – 11 December in Melbourne. The tournament was made up of over 5000 participants, making up 491 teams. Well done to all the students involved and a massive thank you to all the coaches, staff and ex-students who helped out.

Below is a snapshot of the volleyball year from Bronte Jacob who was a member of the Gold Medal winning team.

Louise Bates

Volleyball Coach

This year volleyball has made coming to school much more enjoyable! I have loved being able to come into the gym at lunchtime to practise my skills and play which has meant that there is always something to do. We are lucky to have such enthusiastic and experienced coaches/teachers who not only teach us how to play, but who also get involved with our games at lunchtime.

Getting involved in this extra-curricular activity made transitioning to high school so much easier. We made friends with others in the team who also love sport. After a whole year of playing volleyball together as a team we have become so close to one another, gaining trust and much empathy for each other.

This year we committed to twice weekly morning training sessions and have come into the gym almost every lunchtime just to practise and it has really paid off because we won Gold for our division at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup. We played in some really close and nerve racking games throughout the tournament, but it was so much fun! Throughout this week, we have shared so many memories, stories, smiles, laughs and tears  and we are looking forward to doing it all again next year!
