Year Three/Four News 

In Year 3/4 we have begun a unit on Summarising as part of our Reader's Workshop. Through Interactive Read Alouds, Reader's Workshop Minilessons and Independent Reading, students will be learning how to identify the most important parts of a text. Summarising is different to retelling as it only focuses on elements of the text such as the beginning, middle and end of a fiction text and the main idea of a non-fiction text whereas a retell includes more detailed information. Below are the texts students will be focusing on over the next four weeks.

At home students can be supported to increase their summarising skills by summarising the book they bring home for nightly reading or by summarising a favourite movie or television show. Students can also be encouraged to summarise the three best parts of their day at school. We are really looking forward to seeing students increase their skills in this area over the coming weeks.
