Year 12 Results 2021

Congratulations to our Dux, Vanessa Ho Phan and Dux Proximus, Alyssa Kate Payad for their outstanding results. We also congratulate the whole 2021 VCE Cohort on their wonderful ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) outcomes.

The VCE is primarily for those students focused on tertiary entry and the ATAR is the ranking used for this purpose. We are thrilled with the ATARs that our 2021 Year 12 students achieved. 27% of our students gained an ATAR over 80 which is outstanding. 45% achieved a ranking over 70 and 72% above 60! This translated into pathways success with our students gaining places in their preferred tertiary courses. In fact, in first round offers, over 86% of our students were offered their first or second preference through VTAC. Second round offers saw even more students being offered their first preference. All eligible students have been offered a place in a course. We should all be incredibly proud of this achievement!

Vanessa and our other high achievers were recognised at the Marian High Achievers Assembly. Vanessa provided some insightful advice for our current students. She is a fine example of a Marian assessment-capable learner. An assessment-capable learner is one who knows where they are in their learning, where they want to get to and, most importantly, how they are going to get there.

It was wonderful to hear about the success of all these inspirational young women and the diverse range of tertiary courses they are pursuing at many different universities in 2022.

Furthermore, we congratulated our 2021 Year 11 students who successfully undertook a Unit 3 and 4 Study, with five of these students, now in Year 12, being named dux of their 2021 Unit 3 and 4 study. These students, along with their peers, have an excellent foundation to build upon in Year 12 in 2022.

We also recognised our VCAL achievers and were inspired by Taylah Scothern, the Overall VCAL High Achiever 2021, whose wise words emphasised that different senior school pathways suit different learners. She explained how our applied learning program has opened the door to her future pathway and provided her with challenges to enable her to develop skills and capabilities to “seize the day,” as she said in her speech. Taylah will be pursuing the tertiary course of her choice. It is great to see that many of our VCAL students have gained placements in a range of courses of their choice whilst others are entering the workforce in 2022.

Academic Awards Years 7 - 10

The skills and capabilities that enable Year 12 success are developed over the years at Marian from Year 7. Students who develop the dispositions of the Marian Learner show the greatest growth from year to year and ultimately achieve their goals in Year 12.

The Marian Academic Excellence Awards, for students from Years 7 to 11 in 2021, were recognised at the High Achievers Assembly too. Certificates will be presented by Year Level Leaders. These awards acknowledge all-round academic achievement. Our Marian Learner Awards reward those who have demonstrated exemplary   learning behaviours, as displayed on our Marian ‘Love of Learning’ Poster. Congratulations to all of these students for their achievements and for developing the skills to maximise their progress.

Parent Engagement in Learning

Parent and family engagement is one of the most powerful predictors of children’s development and educational attainment. Parental engagement means being actively your child’s learning. At Marian College, we are always looking to implement strategies to increase parent engagement.

It was fantastic to see so many families at our Online Parent Information and Meet-the-Teacher Evenings. The recordings of each of the year level presentations will be available on the SEQTA Engage and Learn Welcome Pages. We are also looking forward to working with families at our forthcoming series of SEQTA Engage Parent Workshops. Further information will be sent this week.

We would like to highlight the value of the parent portal, SEQTA Engage, as a tool facilitating greater levels of engagement. SEQTA Engage provides access to coursework, student goals, assessment results and feedback, enabling parents to be more informed. This should assist you to talk constructively with your daughter about her learning and progress. We suggest that parents discuss learning goals and that you have high yet achievable expectations. Also, discuss assessment tasks and the teacher feedback provided over the semester. Most importantly, talk about your daughter’s reflection and her feedback in relation to her achievement and progress. Can your daughter then explain her next learning steps or strategies that she will implement to improve in the future?

These are examples of ways that parents can engage in their daughter’s education. Parents should work together with teachers and the school to ensure we achieve our target of developing assessment capability and at least a year’s progress for every year at school for all of our students.

Thank you for your support. We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year of learning ahead!
