Connection and Prayer

It has been great to see so many children back at school this week. I know for many children, personal connection with their friends, teachers, and other trusted school community members has been an exciting point to look forward to. Phone calls and face time on devices can be a great way to keep in contact, but it’s just not the same as personal connection.

Connection with God is the same. I spend time with our staff in devotion, and at home in personal devotion, often reading from devotional books or watching short video clips. It can seem like enough. But recently I have been reminded that the direct source of connection with God is, well, God.

Christians believe that the Bible is God’s Word – the best source of information we have about him, and about his plans for us. Reading the Bible in it’s context can be more powerful than one Bible verse in a devotional book (or a devotion like this!) Even better, God gives us the most personal way to connect with him through prayer. Prayer is talking directly to God. Speak to him, listen. There are no rules!

For some children at school, reconnecting with friends can be a nervous time. When we don’t connect for a long time, it can be hard to take the first step. I wonder if prayer is the same? If you haven’t prayed for a while, try taking the first step to start again. Finding a Christian friend to encourage you in your prayer life can help too.

Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. Jeremiah 29:12
