Year 10 Work Experience 16-20 MAY 2022

All Year 10 students will complete work experience during the week of 16-20 May.  They have been informed about the process of obtaining work experience and have been given a Student Booklet which contains hints on how to find work experience, a sample application email and sample resume. The Official Forms Booklet have also been given to students and these need to be completed and signed by employers, parent/guardians and students once they have obtained a placement.

Official Forms need to be returned to the Careers/Pathways Office by Tuesday 22nd March, 2022 at the latest.

Due to COVID-19, it may be more difficult than usual to gain work experience places, so we encourage students to start enquiring as soon as possible.

Students are encouraged to try to find work experience in an area that they would like to pursue as a career, as it is a good opportunity for them to explore career options.

We are here to assist students with this process, but we encourage students to take the initiative in finding their placements.

There are also a number of restrictions on work experience placements.

1.   Students must be 15 years of age by May 16th, 2022 in order to undertake Work Experience. (Please see me if you are under 15)

 2. Work Experience in the trades and building industry requires approval by the Work Experience Co-ordinator and the Principal as well as “White Card Training” and accreditation. This training will be organised by the school through the CFMEU before Work Experience and costs approximately $65. Therefore, it is essential that students who are thinking of completing Work Experience in the trade area find a placement as soon as possible and return the Work Experience form for approval.

 3.  Work Experience with animals has many restrictions. There are strict guidelines in place which need to be followed and extra forms to complete which need approval. Students who are interested in working with animals need to gain their placement as soon as possible and seek approval from the Work Experience Co-ordinator and collect the extra forms for completion.

4. Due to COVID-19, there are extra regulations in place. For example, work experience students may not be allowed to work in aged care or hospital settings. Other workplaces may also have restrictions in place.

Please be aware that students undertaking work experience will be subject to the vaccination status of that workplace, so they need to ensure that they ask about these requirements when obtaining work experience and that they meet them.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further information or assistance regarding Work Experience.

MY CAREER INSIGHTS - YEAR 9 MORRISBY CAREERS PROFILING

My Career Insights is a free program for all Year 9 students in Victorian Government Secondary Schools. Assisting students in Year 9 to identify their strengths, interests, work preferences and styles can be useful as they start to make decisions about senior subject choices, pathway options and further study and employment options.

This program will help your Year 9 child to:  • Learn about what skills and abilities they could bring to a job.

• Find out about what jobs match their abilities, interests and personality, and the subjects they need for those jobs.

As part of the program, your child will:

• Complete a series of online questions and quizzes (on the Morrisby website) at school.

This will take place on Wednesday 2nd March from 9 to 11 AM. Students will need laptops to complete this profiling.

• Receive a Morrisby Profile Report showing the results from the questions and quizzes, and possible jobs that match their abilities, interests and personality.

• Have a 30-minute “unpacking” meeting/interview with a Morrisby-trained Career Practitioner, who will explain the report to your child. This meeting is likely to occur in Term 2 during Week 6.

The Morrisby Profile can also be used and accessed by students after they leave school.

Could Year 9 Parents/Guardians please consent through the COMPASS Portal for this event as soon as possible. If you are having problems accessing the COMPASS Portal please contact the Administration Office for assistance.
