Next week is Book Week

Students at EDSC will celebrate Book Week with costumes, competitions, and prizes from Tuesday 23rd to Friday 26th August.

Tuesday 23rd August is Costume Day. Students can dress as their favourite book, Manga, or graphic novel character on out of uniform day, and even win prizes for best dressed.

Throughout the week, students can win prizes by:

  • Finding the staff Mystery Readers in secret locations around campus. Entry forms can be collected from the Library foyer each lunchtime. Everyone who finds a Mystery Reader gets a small prize!
  • Decoding the Googly Eye Anagram puzzle in the Library. There’s a new puzzle each day, and a secret phrase will be revealed by the end of the week. Entry forms can be collected from the Library foyer each lunchtime.
  • Reading at least two books from the ‘Shortlisted CBCA Book of the Year’ list and entering them into the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge form.

Year 7s will enjoy a talk by Australian author Danielle Binks on Friday 26th August. Danielle Binks’ books are available to borrow from the Library now.

Book Week, which is organised by The Children’s Book Council of Australia, is celebrated at EDSC each August. The theme of this year’s Book Week is ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’.

Congratulations to Azeen of 7C and Tiarna of 8C who have recently reached their 15 book milestone. All students who read 15 or more books will join our end-of-year Challenge celebration and receive a certificate from the Victorian Premier.

Students who reach the 15 book milestone need to come into the Library to sign their reading declarations before the end of Term 4 to ensure entry to the celebration.

Well done to Jolin of 8K who won a $10 canteen voucher in this fortnight’s random draw, just by entering their books into the Google Form on our Challenge webpage. There is one more random canteen voucher draw before the end of Term 3.

This year we are counting the books Year 7 to 10 students, and all school staff, read from 31st January to 2nd September.

Students can read ANY books they like (excluding children’s picture books). We are awarding lots of individual prizes to students throughout the year to acknowledge reading efforts.
