NEWS & ADMINISTRATION

Mrs Caroline Galea

Dear Parents,

This week I sent out a very important letter to all parents about the structure of classes in 2023. Please read it. Should you have any questions, please come and talk to myself or another member of staff.

Swimming

Next week, our swimming program begins for the junior students. It has been some time since we last took part in the swimming program. As being able to swim is so important to a nation of water lovers that live on an island, you as a parent may be thinking ahead and looking for things that you can do to help make your children safe around water.

Our intensive swim program looks at water familiarity and water safety.

One of our kind parents recently emailed me with suggestions of swimming options in the area.  These suggestions would be good for children of all ages.

1.There are several swim schools that run holiday swim programs that the public can participate in, without the school term commitment.  I can highly recommend the IGGS program, as my child has participated in their programs both during term and holidays.  There’s  an opportunity for both group and 1:1 session.

2. Another swim school both my kids swam at is LTSV in Cape street.  They too, offer similar holiday programs, both to their existing patrons and the public.  Classes at both these pools are small and the pool area is “quiet” as it is solely for swim lessons – 6 lanes only.

3. Another person the families can reach out to is Toni Huntington (Oakhill swim school – in Joffre Street) – her pool is shallow and only 25m.

3/4 Gymnastics Program

Next week, our Year 3 and 4 children will be participating in an intensive Gymnastics program, this will mean that the children will receive two sessions each day for a week. This should be an exciting week for the children and an exhausting one.

School Closure Day

In our newsletter, you would have noticed that we have two school closure days scheduled for Term 4. The first of these is on Monday 31st November (Cup Eve). The second one was scheduled for 1st December.  Please note that this second date has been changed. After consultation with the staff and seeking permission from MACS, this second date has been moved to Monday 19th December. The 19th of December was going to technically be the last day of the year for children in Years Prep-5.  Instead, Friday 16th December will now be the last day of the year for all levels.  This means that all children will finish at 1:00pm.  The day will end with a guard of honour for the Year 6 students at 12:30 and at 1:00pm, the rest of the children will be dismissed after returning to their classroom.

The 1st of December therefore, is a normal school day.

Story Time is Back!

Do you have a preschool aged child that enjoys listening to stories?  Why not bring them to story time? Holy Name will once again be running our story time sessions. This is open to all preschoolers.  The sessions will be held in the Library area from 2.30 to 3.15pm.

Long Service Leave

In my past newsletters, I have neglected to inform the community that Rosa Zannoni is on LSL.  Rosa will be away until the beginning of next year.

ASSEMBLY

We now have assembly back on in the Hall every Monday at 2:30pm.  We welcome all parents.

MACSIS Survey

Each year, a random group of families are asked to compete an online survey referred to as MACSIS.  The data collected from families, staff and students help paint a picture of Holy Name and the areas in our school that need to be worked on.

If you received an email last Thursday, inviting you to participate, could you please complete the online survey before September 16th.

Canteen

At present, Donna Pinto is on sick leave and our canteen is being operated by Adam McKay.   If you are a regular canteen volunteer, please just continue as usual.

Long Service Leave

In the last week of term, Mrs Leanne Fraser (office) will be on a week's LSL.  The office will still be manned.

School Fee Reminder

We have a large amount of unpaid and overdue fees......

Could I ask families to make sure you are up to date with your school account.
