College Council

I am one of the newer members of the MGSC school council having joined as a parent representative following a casual vacancy in May 2022.  It has become apparent to me quite quickly the dedication of the schools’ leadership team and their commitment to positive education and social outcomes for all students. Since my joining the School Council have received reports on the progress and outcome of the Strategic Review process (see Newsletter ed 10), updating school policies and reviewing and approving financial records for the school. Our meetings have been a combination of online and in person to cater for the winter illness that have been so widespread across our community and ensure that a quorum can be achieved.

There have been so many interesting and impressive events the school has been involved in over recent months. I was lucky enough to attend the Aerobics National Championships on the Gold Coast recently with one of my daughters competing.  As you may have seen in Newsletter edition 13, the weekend was a great success with 12 teams placing the top 4 from 21 performances. Performing at a national level at quite an intimidating venue is such great experience for all those involved. With around 80 MGSC students attending the event, the school’s presence over the weekend was felt not just at the Convention Centre but also in and around Broadbeach. Having had daughters in the program for the past six years I can honestly say it has been an important feature of my girls’ experience at MCSG. It has given them confidence and performance experience but also taught them the importance of teamwork and showing up each week for early morning training from the start of the year, throughout the cold winter weeks into Spring. I have loved to cheer the girls on with other parents - including yelling out the all-important ‘woop woop woop woop’ when the girls are doing their 4 compulsory high leg kicks!!!

The School Council will meet again after the term 3 break where we will consider and approve important planning requirements for 2023. I am thoroughly enjoying being involved in the school through the school council and look forward to learning more and contributing over coming months.
