Principal's message

Dear MGSC community

We have finally made it to the last week of Term 3 with Thursday 15 September being the last day of classes for our students.  Our staff will be having a Professional Practice Day on Friday 16 September and will be continuing to review and develop their courses in readiness for 2023.

I am very excited to announce that the Victorian Schools Building Authority has given approval to start the tender process for the Wellness Centre.  This is a school-funded project, meaning that this is funded 100% by revenue raised from the hiring of facilities over a number of years or donations to our Building Fund.  We can be very proud of our achievements in relation to the renovations and development of our learning spaces over the past six years given that we have done this without any grants or external funding being assigned to us.

Last week our students performed at the Mentone RSL Club on Thursday 8 September.  The Stage Band, Guitar Ensembles and Funkadelics performed on the night. I give my congratulations to the performers and to Tim Veevers, Sue Cook, David Seedsman and the rest of the music team for a very successful evening of music and dinner enjoyed by a packed house. The quality of the performances was very high.

On Wednesday 14 September the school also held its Music Soiree after school. This was the last opportunity for our Year 12 VCE students perform pieces from their recitals, plus many performances from students of all year levels. I wish the Year 12s all the best as they near their practical exams.

This week we have been celebrating Health and PE Week and HPE Body Kind Week. There have been many activities that have taken place. You may be asking, what happens at a Colour run? The Color Run is also known as the Happiest 5K on the Planet and celebrates healthiness, happiness, and individuality. The Color Run is a five-kilometer, untimed event. At each kilometer mark, Color Runners are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder. All of our competing students wear white at the starting line and finish the race plastered in color.  It was so much fun to watch.  Many of our teachers also took part and were very colourful by the end of the race. Today at lunchtime staff played netball against teams from each year level, which was a terrific way to end the term for everyone.

I wish you all the best for the impedding holidays and look forward to seeing everyone on the other side of this well-deserved break.

Kind regards

Linda Brown
