Year 8 Humanities Volcanic Eruption!

At the moment in Year 8 Humanities, students are learning about how natural disasters occur. Across this week and last week, some of the year 8 classes made volcanoes and erupted them!

Below is Ali, Parnian and Anuki's impression of the task:

Each of the year eights designed and constructed their own volcanoes, then got to choose what colour their lava would be using food colouring. Two students created a volcano with a smiley face on it, and we made a volcano out of a water bottle and named it Mount Franklin. We all had amazing customisation options for our volcano, and some groups even used cotton balls to represent the pyroclastic flow. This past fortnight we have been learning about the types of volcanoes, how they are formed, erupt and affect civilisations living near them, the next topic we will be covering is tsunamis.

Year 7 ALL

Over the past few weeks 7ALL students have been enjoying the sunshine while doing local liveability audits and verse writing on the beach. The students have been producing some fantastic writing in response to the themes and style of 'Sister Heart' and found inspiration for their writing at Mentone Beach. How lucky are we to be at a school so close to the ocean!
