Middle School News
Term 3 in the Middle School has been busy and productive at Frankston High School. The Year 10 students have almost finished their first term of their Semester 2 studies and have 10 weeks until they commence their end of year examinations.
Year 10 ‘Challenge Accepted’ Day
On Monday 25 July, all Year 10 students participated in the Year 10 Challenge Accepted Program. The day started with a motivational presentation from Beau Vernon, students then engaged in respect and resilience workshops and career education activities. Students then self-selected a range on mini workshops connected to health and wellbeing and study skills. It was a fantastic day which consolidated the key themes of resilience, respect and perseverance that the Year 10 Coordinators highlight with students in all conversations. Thank you to Ms Sam Cody and Ms Libby Toovey for organising this wonderful school event.
‘Challenge Accepted Day’, a day designed to help develop our resilience and provide us with skills to apply to both VCE and the rest of our lives. The day began in the Presentation Space listening about the program for the day. We were then joined by keynote speaker Beau Vernon, a paraplegic inspirational speaker who spoke about the importance of resilience and gratitude, and carrying these values of appreciating what we have through the rest of our lives. After recess, we got split into groups according to activities we had pre-chosen, with wellbeing activities such as mindfulness or meditation, and learning activities such as how to be a genius or how to train your brain. I chose the Future Leaders program, where we discussed at what time in our lives did we think we were at our best, and then completed a survey to determine our top five character strengths, as well as how we use these skills and how we can use them more. Then after lunch we did our second session of activities. It was at this time that the second half of the year level completed their Project Rock It session, a program that talks about issues such as discrimination and prejudice, as well as ways to combat bullying at school and ally ship. It was informative and provided us with skills and knowledge that apply to both a school environment and life past high school. Finally, we completed our final session of the day. My activity was Walk and Talk, however with the rain that came it ended up being an indoor time to talk with friends. The day was super fun and taught us all a lot of important life skills such as acceptance that will be really helpful throughout VCE.’ Molly Flanders
