Parent Opinion Survey closes Friday 16 September

Parent Opinion Survey

Thank you to the parents/carers who participated in the 2022 Parent Opinion Survey.  Our ‘CASES21’ computer program, randomly selected 15% of our families to participate in this survey.  The survey responses are confidential and are sent to an independent organisation that collates the data.  This data will be used to enable the school to celebrate success as well as identify areas for improvement.  Your participation in this important process is greatly appreciated.  The survey closes on Friday 16 September.

School Review

The final day of our school review ran on Tuesday 2 August. We visited a number of classes during the review, along with a number of interviews between the School Reviewer and challenge partners with staff, parents/carers and students. The next steps are for the School Review report to be finalised and sent to us, with our draft School Strategic Plan for the next four years being developed from this. Thank you to Mr John Simon, Ms Tiffany Greenhill, Mr Mark Rickinson and Mrs Nickie Fidge for their efforts and involvement on the School Review Panel. Thank you also to Mrs Cathy Hogg, Ms Helen Wilson, Mrs Carolyn Florance and Mrs Joanna Matthews for their efforts leading up to and during parts of the review.

MATHS Week

Well done and thank you to Ms Kate Burgess and the Maths Team on their efforts organising and running various engaging lunchtime activities recently. It was really wonderful to see so many students participating, being actively encouraged by their teachers. Some of the activities included:

  • World of Maths incursion where all Years 7 and 8 students participated in a range of hands on Maths learning activities.
  • Australian Maths Competition where all Years 7 and 8 students along with many Year 9 to 12 students competed in the Australia wide competition. It was a great chance for our students to push themselves to solve tricky Maths problems and see how they go against other students across the country.
  • Maths lunchtime activities ran each day. Including the very popular Rubik’s Cube Competition. It was amazing to see how talented many of our students are in solving a Rubik’s cube so quickly!
  • Maths problem of the day where students had the chance to answer a tricky Maths problem to win a canteen voucher.

Politician Visit – Student forum

On Wednesday 10 August we hosted a student forum in our PAT involving a number of guests including The Hon Tim Pallas MP – Victorian State Treasurer, Paul Edbrooke MP – State Member for Frankston and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Peta Murphy MP - Federal Member for Dunkley and Councillor Claire Harvey - Frankston City Council. These guests formed a ‘Shark Tank’ style panel and heard a future policy pitch from our Eco Team, our Interact Team, students undertaking our Innovation subject along with students from McClelland College. Thank you to Mrs Cathy Hogg, Mr John Simon, Mrs Sarah Bahramis, Mr Jon Christie, Mr Brendan McKinnon and Mrs Stav Smaragdiou for their efforts leading up to and on the day, along with our fantastic students involved.

On Wednesday 10 August, a ‘Shark Tank’ style event was held in the PAT at Frankston High School. The event was organised to hear young people’s opinions on future policies that should be put in place around the Frankston Community. Three groups from Frankston High School and one group from McClelland College presented their speeches to the panel. The panel evaluated the pitches and gave their feedback to the students. The groups presented pitches such as starting a mental health initiative in schools, creating an inclusive space for the community that is environmentally friendly and providing the community a space where they can perform various activities. All these pitches were intended to benefit the whole Frankston community.  Rujula Sharma, Year 10 Innovation student
