Grade F-1 Miss Bennett

The Foundation/1 Class have been very busy the past couple of weeks and all of their hard work is paying off with some terrific learning being demonstrated! We have started completing our writing to match a picture prompt. This has been a fan favourite in theF/1 room with lots of creative stories and sentences being written.

Also, over the past two weeks, the students have been focusing on blending and writing CVC words and CVCC words. In order to work on this, they have been using the sandboxes to write their words, creating them with magnetic letters, playdough and using a read, spell build and write whiteboard.

During reading we have learnt and broadened our knowledge on vowels. The F/1 students loved making ‘vowel clouds ‘to match their vowel learning.

In maths, the children created their own money dice with coins on it to match their learning about money and financial maths.

Grade 1-2 Miss Hayes

In Writing the Grade 1-2’s have been learning about procedural and persuasive writing forms. Last week during our persuasive lessons we wrote letters to the 1-2 teachers about which pet would make the best class pet. Below are some of our reasons:

During our procedural writing lessons we have written a couple of different procedures. One was how to make a pirate hat using newspaper and this week we wrote about how to brush your teeth.

Grade 3-4 Miss Stock

The 3-6 students created some fantastic procedures last week! They broke off into small groups, where they had to play a game together and then create a procedure to teach others how to play. They enjoyed this opportunity to work with each other.

They also enjoyed writing a procedure on how to make a jam sandwich and fairy bread. They had to be very explicit with their instructions and did a great job following the success criteria to make sure they included all the features of a procedural text.

This week they broke off into groups again and had to write a procedure on how to play an outside game. Now they are working together to create a video of their procedure, to teach others how to play.

Grade 5-6 Miss Rasmussen

In the past 2 weeks we have been doing a lot of work on procedural writing, math and inquiry. We have been doing okay since our teacher Miss Ras has been impacted by the floods, hopefully she comes back. We got to bake lots of yummy treats such as honey joys, jelly cups and ice cream sandwiches. After we cooked all of the food we did some procedural writing on how to make it. We also got to play tabloid sports, it was very fun.

This week has been about finishing our math subject- Decimals and Percentages, to move on to the next one- Money. We have also been doing inquiry for a long time and we have been learning about animal adaptations.
