Swimming

Last week Scotsburn participated in their swimming lessons at Federation University. Each day consisted of a 45 minute lesson, with Friday including some free time on the inflatable. Everyone did an amazing job throughout the lessons, as well as being well organised. We loved to see how excited all the students were to get into the water and enjoy participating in the lessons. Well done everyone!

New Kitchen Update!

In some very exciting news, our new kitchen in the old building has started to be installed. This is fantastic news and much sooner than we expected. Over the next few weeks the old building will be out of action as we get everything installed and ready for our big makeover! It will be wonderful to begin 2023 with functional cooking space for students and the community to use. A massive thank you again must go to the Community Bank Buninyong for their support in funding the project, and we would not have been able to get this project off the ground without them. Also a big thank you to Michael (Ana’s husband) and his team at Ace Joinery for the cabinetry work and getting the job started so quickly!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

This has traditionally been a highlight on the calendar, and with it missing over the last few years due to Covid, we can’t wait to have the day back. The day will run this Friday 25th November, from 9am - 11am at the Scotsburn campus, with some interactive activities planned for the grandparents and special friends to get involved in.

We are also asking that parents could please bring a plate for morning tea on the day, which we will hold between 10.45am - 11.30am. Due to the kitchen works in the old building and some recent water damage in the shed, we will set up the Art room for some morning tea.

If you are intending to bring a plate, please add your name to the Scotsburn section of the link below:

Scotsburn Parent Morning Tea and planning for 2023

Next Tuesday morning, we would love to hold a parent morning tea and catch up at the campus. This will provide an important opportunity to pass on lots of information heading into the end of the year, as well as make some plans for 2023. Part of this discussion will involve talking about the creation of a Scotsburn parent committee in 2023. If you think that this would be something that you would like to be a part of and can’t get to the morning tea please let us know!

The morning tea will also provide an opportunity for us to gain valuable feedback from the Scotsburn parent community, to ensure that we can continue to develop and improve our practices at the campus. We hope to see as many as possible there!

When: Tuesday 29th November

Where: Old building, Scotsburn

ESTA 000 Emergency Call - Incursion

A big thank you to Tara and Geraldine for coming in and educating us all around making 000 calls. You could see the level of curiosity and engagement from all year levels. It was amazing to hear real 000 calls made from children and the way our students asked questions to gain further understanding or clarity. All students were given a ‘homework’ task. Students were asked to learn their home addresses in the situation that an emergency call was made from their homes. We hope that we have given all your children confidence around making a 000 call and an awareness of what is required of them if an emergency arises.

Tully Energy Breakthrough

Congratulations to Tully and the Energy Breakthrough team from the weekend. After some slight changes to plan due to the weather, it sounds like it was an amazing experience and lots of fun. I’m sure Tully will still be a bit tired from all of his riding!

Scotsburn End of Year Pool Day - event on Compass

Our end of year Scotsburn Pool Fun Day is now on Compass. Please when you get a chance, jump on and complete the payment and consent. It is always a highlight of the end of year celebrations and we can’t wait.

Later this week, more information will come home regarding all of our end of year arrangements and activities.

Icy Poles are back!

Icy poles are back! The grade 6 boys will be selling icy poles on the old building on Friday for $1. Remember to bring you coins!

2022 School Magazine

A reminder that the 2022 school magazine is now available to order via QKR. These magazines make a great keepsake for families to remember the year that was. This year we have pages from every class, memories from our specialist sessions, major events throughout the year, a staff page and much more.

To purchase a magazine, please go to QKR to place your order. These need to be ordered before this Friday 29th November, 9am.

End of Year Scotsburn Concert and Picnic

A reminder to put in your calendar our end of year concert and picnic. It will be held this year on Friday 17th of December, which is Friday of Week 11. The concert and picnic will be running at an earlier time this year, during the school day between 2pm - 4pm. This change in time has had to be made due to changes to the employment agreement for teachers and Education Support staff, and we want to make sure that we have all in attendance for this wonderful celebration. Hopefully sending out the dates this early will provide everyone with enough time to make arrangements to be in attendance. Feel free to come and have a chat if you need any more information on this.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

What a busy week we had last week. I have been truly amazed at how all SC1 students really gave it their all during our swimming lessons. Watching the student's confidence and ability level grow from Monday to Friday was so lovely to see.

In class, we started creating our final mini-books for our integrated topic. Students have loved learning more about services in our community that help us and their storybooks really bring out some wonderful understanding and adventure around story grammar. I look forward to sending these home in the next few weeks.

This Thursday we have our community walk to wrap up our community services unit and celebrate and acknowledge our own community we live in. I have arranged for us to visit multiple community services, such as the new fire station, veterinary clinic, etc.. Students will need to be dropped off at the Buninyong Campus at 8:45am in the courtyard and collected again from the Buninyong Campus at 3:25pm. Students will need to bring along their normal snacks, lunch, and a drink bottle of water. Please ensure appropriate footwear is worn as we will be doing a lot of walking. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Enjoy your week.

Thanks,

Ana

SC2 Learning Snapshot

SC2 had a different week last week as we completed some testing as well as our swimming program at Federation University. We welcomed additional students from the UK who swapped the Buninyong campus for Scotsburn campus one day and another student who had been placed at Mt Clear Primary School. We also said goodbye to Beth who had spent almost two weeks with SC2.

During our integrated studies students have been working diligently on their google slide around a celebration/festival of their choice over the past few weeks and I am really looking forward to seeing them present their work on Friday. Please remember that students will not require lunch on Friday as each child will be bringing a plate of food to share that represents their chosen country's celebration. This will happen at lunch time followed by presentations after lunch. Please have a chat with your child/ren about their celebration and what food they are going to be preparing and bringing to share.

Thanks,

Dani

SC3 Learning Snapshot

Last week was a busy time with our swimming lessons and adjusted timetable. It was incredible to see all students show so much effort and positive energy at swimming - well done!

Last week also saw us say goodbye to our UK student visitor, Antonia. Antonia made a big impact on the students in a short time and will be greatly missed. On Friday she cooked the students some traditional Yorkshire Puddings as well as independently taught a reading lesson. Thanks Antonia!

This week in Maths we have began working on Chance and Data, which will provide the students with an opportunity to explore and determine the chance of events occurring. This will also tie in nicely with our work from last term on percentages and fractions.

Have another amazing week everyone. Not many left!
