ACC Public Speaking & Debating

On Monday 7 November, students from Mentone Campus represented St Bede’s College in the ACC Junior Public Speaking and Debating competitions held at St Bernard’s.

Our Public Speaking representatives - Nicholas Shiphan, Rohahn Marie-Jeanne,  George Tindale and Toby Clarkson - represented the College proudly throughout the day. Their competition included both prepared and impromptu speeches, which were delivered to a high standard. The St Bede’s team placed fifth overall out of the 10 schools competing on the day, with only 11 points separating the top five teams.

After winning last year’s Junior Debating premiership, St Bede’s were moved to Division 1 in the ACC Debating Competition. The team consisted of six Year 7 and 8 and students, and well done to each of them: Alexander Tsaousidis, William Aufner, Thomas McDonnell, Jesse Bell, Kobe Williams, Kai O’Brien. Special mention to William, Kobe and Alexander for being recognised as best speaker in one of the day’s debates! They won the first two rounds of the day, going into the final where they were defeated by Mazenod with a one-point margin. The team came away proud of their efforts to come in at 2nd place.

Our junior students are laying some wonderful foundations for continued improvement for success throughout their time at St Bede’s and we look forward to seeing what they do next!
