Year 8 Maths

Year 8 is studying Probability in Mathematics. On Monday, Mrs Sullivan's class participated in Probability stations to further their understanding of the content. They enthusiastically engaged with the work provided, by having robust conversations about their results and how these varied with the expected probability at each station.

Well done to Year 8 on a productive Probability lesson!

Year 9 Maths

Mrs Sullivan's Year 9 class have recently finished a unit of work called Linear Equations and Inequalities. As a revision activity, at the conclusion of the topic, the students were split into groups to complete a Tarsia activity. Tarsia is an educational puzzle that makes learning fun and engaging. Each piece has a question or answer in it. As students match the pieces together correctly, answers to questions are revealed. Each triangular piece fits into another to reveal a star.

There are many benefits to using tarsia puzzles in the classroom, including:

  • boosting the students understanding level of concepts being taught
  • It encourages active learning and participation during lessons
  • It encourages collaborative learning
  • Students gain critical thinking and problem-solving skills because they have to brainstorm possible solutions to the question
  • Concentration and focus is developed because they become engrossed in the activity trying to match the correct pieces.

Congratulations to the winning group Jenovah, Isabel and Denna!
