Remembrance Day

In the week leading up to Remembrance Day (11th November), students in the Primary classes looked at why this is a special day in the calendar and what the red poppy worn on this day signifies.

In the Lower Primary classes, students heard the story Lest We Forget by Kerry Brown. This compares memories of a child and their grandfather, with a message that such days are important.

The Upper Primary classes listened to In Flanders Fields by Norman Jorgensen. This is a heart warming tale of a young soldier in World War 1, who, on a Christmas Eve, ventures into no-man’s-land  to rescue an injured bird, causing a brief truce between the two sides. The classes also heard about the poem of the same name and the story behind it. Students in 6L were particularly fortunate to have a classmate, Rémi, read the poem in French. Beautifully read, Rémi. Merci beaucoup.

A Heartfelt Thank You

The Library staff would like to take this opportunity to say “Thank you very much” to all of our volunteers in the library this year. Whether you have covered books for us at home or come in to school and shelved books or tidied up the shelves, Thank you. Both staff and students appreciate your effort. We certainly can’t do all these tasks without your help.
