On the Thursday of Week 1, four students represented Auburn High School at the Legacy Public Speaking competition. Caroline Marcel spoke about refugee rights, Bosco Lam spoke about animal rights, Rumaisa Mirza spoke about Indigenous rights and Lucas Walliss spoke about personal sacrifice in order to achieve our dreams.
All four also presented impromptu speeches to an audience of Legacy judges, families, teachers and students from other schools, where they had just five minutes to prepare after seeing the topic: ‘How COVID19 has affected my life’, right before another snap lockdown was announced!
In both their prepared and impromptu speeches, these students spoke confidently, articulately and passionately, appealing to their audience’s logic and emotion.
Well done to Caroline, Bosco, Rumaisa and Lucas for giving up their own time to write, revise and rehearse their speeches. Thank you also to the other members of the Public Speaking and Debating Club who supported these students at lunchtime rehearsals and who provided insightful feedback on the content and delivery of the speeches.
We look forward to another exciting semester for the Public Speaking and Debating Club!
