S.E.A.L and Scholarships

On Saturday, 8 May, we conducted our S.E.A.L. testing at the school.   The students participated in an online comprehension, numeracy and general ability test, along with a written creative thinking and extended writing task.   We are still in the process of vetting the results and references, in order to decide the makeup of the 2022 S.E.A.L. class.  All successful students will be notified at the beginning of August.

Towards the end of last term, Stan Koullas and Julie Andrews conducted the Scholarship interviews. Most students, although a little shy to begin with, confidently spoke about their learning and extra-curricular successes. We look forward to announcing the successful Scholarships soon.  Julie commented that she enjoyed interviewing these future leaders very much.

Course Counselling

Below are the new dates for the course counselling that is being led by Stan Koullas. This will obviously depend on COVID-19 restrictions. We look forward to having as much parent input as possible to ensure students make subject choices that will assist with their future career pathways.

  • Week 3: Year 11 into 12 Course Counselling: Thursday 29 July (assuming the GAT is postponed)

This will involve rechecking pathways and students choosing five subjects to study in 2022.

  • Week 4: Year 10 into 11 Careers Week and Course Counselling: August 2 - 6

Year 10 students went through the Morrisby Survey and pathway consult last year and will therefore be in a great position to engage with this part of the program. The Careers week starts on August 2 and may be altered due to the rules around COVID. Hence, there will be numerous activities and remote links with external presenters throughout.

  • Week 5: Year 8 into 9 Course Counselling Online: August 9 to August 11

The Year 8 students will have their first experience of choosing electives. They will have the opportunity to select a total of six subjects based around their career pathway and their interests.

  • Week 5: Year 9 into 10 Course Counselling: August 12 and 13

The Year 9 students will be selecting all their subjects based on our College guidelines, which can be found on the NGSC website. Students will be directed to read these in the lead up to the subject selection day.

Reporting and Parent - Teacher Interviews

Due to the issues caused by lockdown, the reports were released this week, on Tuesday, 20 July, to parents.  It is hoped that these will encourage parents to have conversations with their children about their learning and future pathways.  It is a great opportunity to reflect on the semester, celebrate growth and achievements and develop strategies on how improvements can be made. Please do not hesitate to contact your teachers for further feedback or clarification of results.

Parent - Teacher  Conferences will be held on Tuesday 27 July, 11:30 am - 6:30 pm. These will be held online and this information has been shared with the parents via Compass.  It will be a similar process to last year. Hopefully, this familiarity will allow for a successful day with plenty of parent, student and teacher interactions. Please contact your child’s teacher or Sarah Bridges should you require assistance with making interview times.
