SCHOOL FEES

Statements were sent home via email at the beginning of Term 3. A reminder that all school fees must be finalised by 27th August, 2021.  If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Erica in the office.

STUDENTS RETURNING IN 2022

Each year at this time we commence our planning for the following school year.  Enrolment patterns influence staffing, class numbers and our response to enquiries about new enrolments.  A form was sent out this morning on Operoo and we ask that you complete the eform to advise us if your child is returning in 2022 so that our planning is as accurate as possible.

STUDENT & FAMILY INFORMATION UPDATE

If any of your personal details have changed (email, address, mobile number etc.),  please let the school office know as soon as possible by email to admin@smstkildaeast.catholic.edu.au.

SPORTS NEWS   (Angela Mason & Tania Thompson)

We are very excited to be able to run our St Mary’s Yr 3-6 Tri Aths Day next Thursday the 12th of August. As this event is for students from St Mary’s only, and outdoors, we are working within the Covid safe rules. All families with a student in Yr 3-6 would have received an Operoo form with details of the day. Please be sure to read all of the information provided before next Thursday.

The buses will be leaving at 9:00am so please ensure your child is at school in plenty of time.

The Tri Aths Day gives all students the opportunity to participate in track and field events they may have previously had little or no experience in. I am sure that watching the  Olympics have inspired many of us to try new things, so we are looking forward to a great day of faster, higher, stronger, together!

ST MARY'S STUDENT VLOG

This video comes to you from Lennox and Dexla who interviewed Mr Scott after his 100 Days of Teaching celebration. They find out Mr Scott was once a swim coach!

CBCA BOOK WEEK

Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. You will often see parades with students dressed as their favourite book character.

This year at St Mary’s we will be celebrating Book Week on Monday 30th August with a parade and other activities related to books and authors. So start thinking about a dress up costume following the theme - Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. We encourage all students to get involved to make the day a fun celebration of books. Even the teachers will be getting dressed up! The parade will be held first thing in the morning on the playground. Parents and Carers are most welcome to attend. We are really looking forward to such a happy event.

I have attached a link to the CBCA website for parents if they wish to know any more information about BOOK WEEK.

We look forward to our Book Week Parade on Monday 30th August.

YEAR 3 & 4 CAMP TO LAKE DEWAR

Last Thursday and Friday we travelled to Lake Dewar for our wonderful Year 3 & 4 camp. We broke up into 5 groups and did a number of fun activities, for example Dual Flying Fox, Canoeing, Archery, Adventure Tunnelling Hut Building and Campfire Cooking. We all agreed that the Dual Flying Fox was our favourite activity! We ate delicious food and played trivia. We loved every minutes of camp and were very grateful to have had the opportunity to go on camp.  Written by Year 4

Year 3 felt privileged and happy to go to Lake Dewar. We are very thankful to Janet, Greg, Shannon and the team for setting up all the activities for us. We are grateful to our teachers and the YMCA camp staff for organising everything so we could have a brilliant time. We felt safe at camp and enjoyed eating all the yummy food. The flying fox was a challenge by choice activity. This meant that we could choose how far to push ourselves out of our comfort zone. We loved how we could build our independence by making our own beds, being responsible for our own belongings and packing our own bags. We rate our camp experience 5 stars out of 5.  Written by Year 3

SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL

Dear Parents,

School Advisory Council

I am writing to you about establishing a School Advisory Council at St Mary’s Primary School.

As you know our school, like all the Catholic parish and diocesan schools in the Melbourne Archdiocese, is now under the guidance of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS).  Every school has been asked to establish a School Advisory Council as a way of giving parents and guardians a chance to be involved in the school.

It is hoped that this School Advisory Council will advise the Principal on important matters and be a support to the Principal and Leadership of the school in their decision making process.

In many ways we have emphasised the importance of parents and guardians being involved in partnering with the school and the way this helps your children in their education.

As Principal of the school I will very much value the support and advice offered by the members of the Council on such matters as:

  • The Religious Education program
  • Curriculum
  • Enrolments and enrolment policy
  • School resources
  • Improvements in the school
  • Annual Report to the school community
  • Family partnerships

These are just some of the ways a School Advisory Council can give advice to the Principal and Leadership in the school – there are many other areas as well.

I am excited by the idea of having a School Advisory Council and hope many of you will also see this as another chance to support your school and your children.

If you would like more information about MACS School Advisory Councils please refer to the following link:  https://governance.melbourne/sac-faq/.

Mrs Cathy Ferrari

Principal

St Mary’s Primary School,

SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL

Expressions of Interest

At the request of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS) Board, our governing body, St Mary’s Primary School is establishing a School Advisory Council to support the Principal, Parish Priest and leadership team of the school.

No particular expertise is required except a desire to represent and give voice to the parent body in advising the principal about important matters particularly related to the school’s ongoing desire to provide the best possible education for our children.

Therefore we are calling on you to express your interest in being part of the School Advisory Council.   If you are a member of the parish or have children in the school, and wish to be part of this exciting development in our school, we would welcome your application in writing to Mrs Cathy Ferrari  by Thursday 12th  August 2021.
