QLD Clinics Update

Hello friends and families,

Welcome to the May edition of the Early Start Australia - QLD Clinics Update.

The Easter period was a few weeks ago now, but we hope the holidays were full of love, laughter and time spent doing what you enjoy.

You may have noticed that our newsletter looks a little different this time. We're now including updates from across all of our clinics across Queensland. From the menu, you can click directly on your region's page if you're only interested in hearing about news from your local clinic or area.

Take care and wishing you a great week x

Qld Regional Manager

We want to connect with you!

We love to meet community groups, disability services, and individuals within our community who work with and support the families we work with. If you would like to arrange a meeting with us, to see what we do or if you would like us to come to you, please get in touch.

What's on in our region?

Queensland Academy of Sport - Paralympic Sport Talent Identification

Who for? Young athletes aged 13 to 30 year in 2023

The Queensland Academy of Sport is partnering with 8 Paralympic National Sport Organisations in one of the world’s largest Para-Sport talent identification programs.

The Paralympic sport Come-And-Try days are focussed on giving you the opportunity to try any or all of the Paralympic sports that you may be interested in. Along with trying the sports, you will be able to meet and chat with some of Australia’s world-class Paralympic coaches and get a provisional classification.

QAS will be holding a number of YouFor2032 Paralympic Come-And-Try days throughout the second half of 2023, starting in June/July.

If you are interested in trying any of the Paralympic sports, please email QAS at YouFor2032@dtis.qld.gov.au with your name, age, city and impairment. They will then notify you when applications are open for 2023.

Please note that each sport and event has specific impairment requirements and eligibility criteria. Unfortunately, that means that not everyone will ultimately be eligible to compete in every sport and some athletes may not be eligible for the YouFor2032 program. This will be discussed at the YouFor2032 Come-And-Try days in more detail, and all participants are welcome to try each sport initially, regardless of their classification.

For more information about Paralympic classification and sport eligibility criteria, please visit the Paralympics Australia website.

National Autism Strategy Community Consultation

The Autism CRC are updating the National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism so that it continues to be relevant and useful. The process has involved a review of research published since 2018, as well as online survey and focus groups to understand community views. The draft is released for public feedback for six weeks, closing 4:00pm (AEST) on 29 May 2023. Visit the Autism CRC website for more information and to provide feedback on the guidelines.
