St Johns Park Public School commemorated ANZAC Day, on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023. Students K-6 came together for a commemorative service.  For this assembly we were honored to have a very special guest, Major John Broz from the Australian Army.

Major John Broz addressed our assembly and brought insight to the significance of ANZAC Day. He reminded us of the importance to remember the ANZAC story and of all those who served and the many who lost their lives in war and peace keeping missions.

Major John Broz retold the story of what happened to the ANZACs at Gallipoli and the qualities of the soldiers who served in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, with their values still relevant today. The qualities being honor, resilience and mateship. These three qualities show the spirit of the ANZAC men and women and are relevant today because we see how honour, resilience and mateship can strengthen us in all aspects of life.

As a school we observed a one-minute silence as the bugle sounded and our Australian flag was lowered. Flowers were laid. We were able to reflect on this special assembly which we commemorate as a whole nation on the 25th April each year. As a country, we know that it is important to acknowledge our peace keeping men and women.

On Tuesday, 25th April our student leaders attended the Dawn Service at Cabrvale Diggers Club. It was a very solemn ceremony with guest speakers reminding us of the bravery of all Australian service men and women and how important it is to remember them each April. Major John Broz, who spoke at our school's ANZAC assembly, was one of the guest speakers.

Our student leaders were called upon to lay a wreath at the flagpole on behalf of our school community. Thank you to the student leaders and their families for attending.
