Senior School Update
Years 10 - 12
Laura Higgins
Welcome to our latest edition of the Senior School Update. We are pleased to report that our Year 10 students had an enjoyable and enriching experience during their recent Work Experience program. This valuable program provided students with an opportunity to step out of the classroom and into the workforce, allowing them to gain practical experience and develop new skills. Our students did exceptionally well, and we are proud of their efforts and achievements. Both Year 10 and 11 students will be engaging in a second opportunity to complete work experience in Term 4.
In addition to Work Experience, our Senior School students have had the opportunity to attend some exciting Career excursions. The VCE Careers Experience in Caulfield was one of the highlights, with over 7000 students in attendance. Our students gained valuable insights into the various career pathways available to them and learned about the education and training requirements needed to achieve their goals. They also had the chance to meet industry professionals and learn about their experiences. Another Careers event that our students participated in was the Tradesfit: Women in Trade and Tech event. The Trades Fit expo demonstrates the exciting world of trade and tech industries and the rewarding, well-paid career opportunities they can provide to young women. It was a fantastic event, and our students enjoyed it immensely.
Our Year 11 students have also been busy working closely with Monash University. They recently participated in the Access Monash run Uniopoly, where they played an interactive game related to university life. The game covered a range of topics, including transitioning and applying to university, surviving VCE, and the costs involved with post-school study. The Access Monash Mentors also spoke about their own experiences, providing our students with valuable insights into university life.
Our Year 11 students are also building their study skills with the Elevate program 'Study Sensei.' This program focuses on developing study skills such as structuring and reviewing organized notes, conceptual learning to develop deep understanding, utilizing practice exam papers, and standing out through independent learning. These skills are essential for success in our Senior School courses and beyond.
We would like to remind our Senior School community that a large number of our students will be participating in the Urban Camp next week, from the 15th to the 17th of May. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to experience life in the city and to engage in a range of activities and educational experiences.
Lastly, on Monday 5th June 5.30 - 6.00pm in our performing Arts Centre, we will be hosting an evening dedicated to exploring the three excellent pathways available at Senior School in 2024– the VCE, the VCE VM & the VPC. This is designed for current Years 9 and 10 students moving into Year 10 and 11 next year. Whether you're a student or a parent, this information night is designed to provide you with invaluable insights into these unique and promising educational journeys. Discover the vast array of opportunities available and learn how it can shape your future. Our wonderful educators will be on hand to discuss the curriculum, subject selection, and the various pathways and career options that your Senior School pathway can lead to. We will guide you through the different program's structures, highlighting their emphasis on both academic excellence and personal development.
We hope you have enjoyed reading about the various activities and events that have been happening in our Senior School. We look forward to updating you on more exciting developments in our next newsletter.
