State School Spectacular

Our State School Spectacular students attended the first rehearsal at Officer Secondary College in Term 1 and will soon be off on their second coming up in May. Our students had an awesome time at this first rehearsal and enjoyed finding out the songs for Spectacular this year, which is quite possibly the most important part! Our students are working hard practicing away in their own time and meeting every week together at school to go over the routines. We can't wait for the next rehearsal where we finish learning the dances we have started on and hopefully learnt a few more numbers too!

Staff Achievement

This week we welcome back Miss Dowler and Mrs Roy from their adventure to Canada as part of Miss Dowler's Victorian Education Excellence Award as the 2022 HPE Teacher of the Year. This professional learning opportunity abroad included visits to educative settings specifically in Alberta and Ontario. These provinces of Canada are leading the way in research and classroom practice in relation to Physical Education – particularly in the approach of Meaningful Physical Education. Miss Dowler and Mrs Roy visited a range of schools from low-SES public schools to affluent private schools, sporting academies to general education settings, both elementary and high schools. All school settings visited were implementing the Meaningful Physical Education approach and it was great to observe the positive impact that this approach to P.E was having on all students. Lastly, they participated in curriculum planning sessions at the University of Alberta with Dr. Doug Gleddie and at Brock University with Dr. Tim Fletcher where they worked on developing curriculum for a Wheels-based unit (bike, scooter, skateboard etc) in P.E which will be implemented at a Year 9 level on Semester 2. The HPE team at WPSC are excited to start implementing elements of this framework into their teaching and then broaden this experience and knowledge into our Primary schools.
