School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

Ready to Learn Plans

Matthew Bodley, Andrew Rayment and Tate Hopkinson

At WPSC, our Ready to Learn Plans were created for students by students. In 2022, our student CARE Captains visited Monterey Secondary College (2022 VEEA School Improvement Winner) to speak to their School Captains about their approach to implementing a safe and orderly learning environment. From this visit, our students chose to bring back to Western Port Secondary College, student Ready to Learn Plans based on the Berry Street Education Model of trauma informed education (a leading approach in education in Australia today).

Ready to learn plans work with the existing School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework as a set of strategies students and staff can use to help students engage in learning or self-manage problem behaviours.

Staff Response to Classroom Behaviour

As a priority, our staff are looking for and actively awarding positive behaviour. This is in the form of Green Compass posts highlighting a CARE Value students have demonstrated and Parents/Carers can see these posts on Compass. Students can then accumulate green points and redeem them for a PBS reward. Alternatively, many students are choosing to save their points and aim for a big ticket item! See below for the Rewards on offer.

*Our Senior team  are currently redefining the rewards system with our Years 10 - 12 Achievement Captains.
