Student Representative Council 2023

Students, how should we structure your school day?

Next year DSC will be making changes to our class period lengths so that we align with new industrial agreements. We will move from a 4 x 75-minute period timetable (300 minutes of instruction) to a 5 x 60-minute timetable (300 minutes of instruction). This presents an opportunity to review our learning programs and Glenn Morris invites our students to have their say.

  • How do you want your day structured?
  • What curriculum programs do you want to see?
  • How can our curriculum program better prepare you for the future?

We have invited members of our Student Representative Council to provide input and we want to hear yours too! Students, please complete the following survey and have your say.

GRIP Leadership Conference!

On March 29th, members of our Student Representative Council accompanied me to the GRIP Leadership Conference. This is a widescale leadership conference that over a hundred Victorian schools attended at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Students engaged in a variety of sessions that covered a range of topics to help build up their leadership capacity.

It was great to see our students engage in the sessions and make the most of what GRIP had to offer them. There was also an opportunity for the students to meet with students from other schools and share their own experiences as SRC representatives.

The day was a great success and I look forward to seeing how students translate their learning into our school environment at Doncaster Secondary College.

School Captain Update

The SRC has made an amazing start to the year of 2023! The team has already conducted a very successful event on Valentine’s Day. In order to help the school community celebrate this event, the SRC cupid delivery service allowed both students and teachers to have the opportunity to bring their own Valentine’s gift for their special person, comprising of anything from notes, to flowers, to cuddly teddy bears. This helped boost morale of students as they where excited to see who was receiving a gift in their class.

Furthermore, on the 22nd of February, DSC held the Year 12 Parent Information Evening. Captains and members of SRC ran a sausage sizzle conducted for those who attended, and we had a presentation by Elevate Education that suggested methods to effectively study and how to achieve academic goals. The parents were also brought up to speed on important events for the year ahead and how to support their children further with their studies.

Upcoming, there is a SRC planning day which will focus on the goals for the year as well as events in the future such as free dress days. So be on the lookout for what the SRC has planned and let us know if you have any further queries or suggestions!
