CCTV camera installation a BPS

Brighton Primary School is installing CCTV cameras on the exterior of our school buildings and I want to take this opportunity to explain the benefits of this technology.

First and foremost, the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. The installation of CCTV cameras on the exterior of our buildings will enhance our ability to monitor and respond to potential safety and security concerns on our campus and to prevent and manage other inappropriate behaviour on school grounds. This will help us to prevent incidents such as vandalism, trespassing, and theft, and ensure that our school remains a safe and secure learning environment.

The use of CCTV can also help deter criminal activity. By installing cameras, we can send a clear message to potential offenders that our school takes safety and security seriously, and that any unlawful activity will be captured on camera and reported to the authorities.

I want to assure you that the installation of CCTV cameras will be done in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, and that the privacy and dignity of our students will be fully respected. We will follow Department of Education policy requirements for the design, installation, management and use of the CCTV system.

The policy is available at: CCTV in Schools – Installation and Management

We will also place a CCTV Privacy Notice on our school website with more information about our school’s use of CCTV. Access to the CCTV footage will be limited to authorised personnel who require it for the purposes of maintaining safety and security, and the footage will be kept secure and confidential.

In total, there will be 26 CCTV cameras installed across the campus and we anticipate that the installation will be completed by the end of first week of Term 2 2023.

Thank you to our school council who actively supported the funding and installation of this technology. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

With best wishes,

Steve
