In Term 1, our focus is on Geography and making connections between Australia and its neighbours.

Learning intentions

Students will:

  • describe the location of Australia's states and territories, selected
  • Aboriginal and Torres Islander nations, neighbours including Pacific
  • Island nations, and countries relevant to students
  • describe geographical features of different local places, including
  • similarities and differences
  • identify connections between the people and features of these
  • countries and places, recognising that people have different
  • perceptions of places.

Term 2

In Term 2, our focus is on Civics and Citizenship and understanding what it means to belong to the local community.

Learning intentions

Students will:

  • understand what ‘civics and citizenship’ is and why it is
  • important to learn
  • understand and recognise that we all have a personal identity
  • understand the diversity of cultural, religious and/or social
  • groups to which they and others in the local community
  • belong
  • identify and describe what rules and laws are, and how they
  • are different
  • know why laws are important and how they affect the lives of
  • people
  • understand the roles of local government and local citizens in
  • their local community
  • conduct an inquiry as an active local community citizen using
  • democratic decision making.
