KOORINGAL - HOME BY THE WATER

The upcoming holidays are generally a time for contemplation, celebration and relaxation. As I reflect on the year that’s been, I remember how most of Semester One was challenging for our staff and students given all the COVID-19 protocols in place; however, as the year progressed and as the school returned to normal operation, the College has celebrated many success stories and I am very proud of all our students’ participation and achievements across all Four Pillars.

Many of these stories and beautiful moments have been captured in the College's 2022 Kooringal. This outstanding publication reflects the year that was and is largely due to the hard work and dedication of Mrs Narelle Burnett, Miss Natasha Camilleri and Mrs Brooke Farrall. Thank you, Community Relations and Marketing team. If your child did not receive a copy of the Kooringal, please drop into the Community Relations Hub to pick one up before Wednesday 14 December or in the new year.

2023 CALENDAR

The College Calendar has now been finalised including term dates, pupil free days and College major events. The Calendar is available on the College website and I ask that family holidays in 2023 are planned around the school holidays.

As you are aware, the start and finishing times next year have been adjusted. School commences at 8:35am and concludes at 3:10pm every day. Transperth have adjusted a number of the bus times to fit with our school start and finishing times. Updated timetables for our popular routes will be uploaded to our website in early 2023. Our library will continue to open from 7:30am - 4:30pm from Monday to Thursday and 7:30am - 4:00pm on a Friday.

FINAL MASSES AND ASSEMBLIES

This week, the Years 7-9 students has had a mass and final assembly. The masses were a beautiful way to conclude our school year and I am very thankful to Fr Cyprian and Fr Francis who celebrated our masses for us. Fr Cyprian and Fr Francis from Our Lady of the Missions Parish, together with Fr Hyginus from Our Lady of Grace Parish and Fr Oscar and Fr Reuben from the Servite Fathers, have been very generous of their time by regularly celebrating mass for our staff and students.

Our individual year group final assemblies also gave an opportunity for each group to reflect on their year and the end of year videos were very popular. It was also a great opportunity to present many significant awards, including the Sacred Heart Learner Awards, Always Striving Upwards Awards, Runner-Up Subject Excellence Awards and Academic Honours, amongst others.

2023 COLLEGE UNIFORM GUIDE

The College Uniform is fundamental to the tone, standards and culture of our school. In 2023, the College is determined to ensure that students wear the College uniform with great pride and to the highest possible standard.

The support of parents/caregivers is essential to ensure that the College maintains the highest possible standard of uniform. Parents/caregivers are requested to carefully read the College Uniform Guidelines which have been recently updated and is available below. The updated Guidelines will also be available on the College website.

Students and parents/caregivers are requested to familiarise themselves with the expectations outlined in these Guidelines and make the necessary adjustments to uniforms before students return to the College in 2023.

Students are required to meet the expectations set out in the new College guidelines from Day 1 of 2023. Parents/caregivers will be contacted immediately if students do not meet College expectations. This particularly applies to hairstyles, grooming and dress lengths.

“It take a village to raise a child” and, therefore, the support of parents is crucial in order to maintain high standards at Sacred Heart College. Our College values and standards are visible every day in the way our students present themselves and we thank you in advance for your support.

THANK YOU

2023 will see a number of new staff commencing at the College and we look forward to welcoming them at their Staff Induction Day on Wednesday 25 January. These staff will be replacing some of the staff who are leaving the College this year.

A full list of current staff movement for 2023 is available below. We extend our gratitude and best wishes to those staff not returning and hope that they remain a ‘Heart For Life’.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all those families not returning to the College in 2023 all the very best for the future. We hope you stay in contact with the College and also remain a ‘Heart For Life’.

To all parents, caregivers, students and staff - thank you for your support in my first year at the College. May you have a safe and happy holiday and I certainly look forward to the excitement that the 2023 academic year will bring.

I wish you all a very special and blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year.
