2022 has required both courage and growth from staff and students alike and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each member of our community for what they have done, as individuals and in collectives, to support the growth of Mount Alvernia’s learning culture and outcomes in 2022.

There is indeed much to celebrate, from the outstanding results of our Year 7 and 9 students in NAPLAN, to the introduction of three way Progress Review Mentoring and Year 9 and 10 SET planning  conversations in July, to the behind the scenes work invested in the launching of MyMtA as a comprehensive learning management system in 2023.

While we wait in anticipation of our Year 12 graduate outcomes released on December 16, we also reflect on the accomplishments of those across Year 7 – 11. I would encourage all parents and carers to engage with the instructions being release in relation to Semester Two Reporting and Mentoring conversations for January. It is most important that stakeholders reflect not only on the results achieved, but on the learning experiences the summative assessment program afforded to each student. These experiences may relate to content, but they may also relate to how individuals prepared for assessments, from the regularity of their study or assignment work, to its strategic purposefulness. Parents and students are also reminded to look for themes in their continuous feedback in 2022, knowing that this might help guide priorities for 2023.

We would encourage parents and students to ask themselves four questions in reflecting on 2022 progress:

  • Did I achieve what I set out to?
  • When I was at my best, what was I doing?
  • What can I do differently next year that will make an impact?
  • What are my next targets?

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a restful break. It has been a great privilege to work with such an esteemed group of students, who remind me every day, of the transformative power of education.
