Performing Arts Co-Curricular Program

On Thursday December 1st we presented our final Showcase performance of the year. We were delighted to welcome and hear from three Marian graduates. Stephanie Angelini graduated in 2010 and has since carved out a career singing in Australia and overseas. Krishna Aguinaldo graduated last year, and came back to join the Concert Band for their final song. And our recently graduated Performing Arts Captain, Cynthia Negash, returned to farewell and be farewelled, and to share the exciting news that she has been accepted into JMC Academy. We celebrated the year with performances by Creative Music Students, the Play Ukelele! club, the Marian College Choir and the Gospel Choir, and the Concert Band. We finished off with an all ensembles/players rendition of Jingle Bells, to get the festive spirit going for us all.

We were able to share some news about 2023 as part of the evening's programme. The Marian College Choir are combining with the Gospel Choir, and will work with a range of staff and student leaders specialising in classical choral, popular, gospel, and music theatre styles. They gave their first performance as a combined group at the Showcase, singing 'Refiners Fire' as the opening reflection. We will also welcome a Senior Rock Band into the program, and look forward to hearing performances from them next year.

I would like to thank all the students and staff who have been part of this year's program. Especially, I would like to acknowledge Cynthia's lasting contribution to the program, the Performing Arts Leaders and Teachers concerts. We look forward to more of these next year, and hope to expand them to include all players and ensembles. I would also like to thank Concert Band leaders Leanne Paul and Vivien Tran, who have taken on the MC'ing of our Showcases this year. And finally all the student leaders and performers who breathe life into the Performing Arts corridors and rooms.

We wish everyone a happy holiday and festive season, and look forward to seeing you all again in 2023.
