Active School Lunchtime Sports Programs - Term 4

Early in the year I informed the school community that Lyndale was successful in receiving an Active Schools Grant to support our school’s implementation of a whole school approach to physical activity. We set our active schools priority area and have working hard with leadership and school maintenance person to ensure our project is delivered by the end of the year.

The core purpose of the Department of Education’s Active Schools Framework was the promotion of physical activity for all students at every opportunity through a whole of school and community approach.

The priority area of the Active Schools Framework that Lyndale Secondary College targeted was:

Active Travel

Active travel gets children moving every day. Active travel involves walking, cycling, scooting or other active ways of getting to or from school, for the whole journey or as part of the journey along with other travel modes, such as public transport.

We have upgraded (awaiting bike shelter delivery) our bike compound by moving it to provide a more visible and secure environment that encourages more students to ride or scoot to school. Also we have  implemented a ‘Tag On’ system that rewards students for using active transport as a mode of travel to school. This kiosk where students can record their active travel will be in the stadium starting 2023. PE Teachers will be informing their students how to go about this process at the start of 2023.

Year 10 Outdoor Edu Surf Camp

The Year 10 Outdoor Education class took part in a 3-day Aquatic Camp on Phillip Island learning about water safety, surfing, kayaking, risk management, and first aid. Even in some very wet and windy conditions, our students had an amazing time. Thank you to Mrs. Carmichael and Ms. Brown for attending and making the event so memorable for the students.
